Modified Cars Knowledge Base
What do you think of people who drive modified cars? I'm not talking about idiots that take Civics and put stupid accesories, loud exhaust on them that makes the car ugly and slows down the car....I'm talking about the guys that do it RIGHT, like adding nice accessories and actually making their car faster. So what's your opinion on people who drive around modified cars? I have nothing against guys who modify Civics...I just said the idiots who don't know what the heck they're doing with them lol
Which auto insurance brokers in Ontario will cover modified cars? I'm thinking of modifying my (suspension/turbo) car and do everything legit by advising the insurance companies. I'm having a hard time find a broken in Ontario, Canada who would oblige. I've been driving for +15 years and a clean record (knock on wood). I haven't called my broker since I'm afraid of them putting a check on my policy :).
Why are modified cars so noisy? I have noticet that all the street racers i no have cars that are extremly noisy.I know it has something to do with their muffler but what i want to know is how does having a noisy car help them in anyway when they are racing. It seems to me that when they are modifying their cars they always try to make the engine sound as loud as possible and i dont realy understand why they have these huge mufflers.
How fast do NASCAR Modified cars go? I was reading in something about some of the series they make them run 4barrel carbs to limit them. but i heard they have almost asmuch horse power as cup cars but how fast do they go at super speed ways.
Does anyone know about modified Cars and Servicing? Hi, I am currently looking at buying a used 2002 RSX type S. However, the car has a custom air intake in it and I am worried that the dealership might not take it in for service? If I bought this car would I have any problems of this sort? Also would I be able to pass State inspections? I am located in Virginia. Thank You
What police "actually" does to modified private registration plate cars which are not legal ? I bought a private number plate, I didn't modified it excatly to look what I thought I would do to make it look like, because the shop I went to make the registration plate advised me to sign a form taking the responsibility of an illigal plate. Now, I see soooo many cars who make slight modification to plates which I was advised not to do. I never hear anybody telling me that police has taken the vehicle away. What actually police does to these people ?
what are californias rules on modified cars? hi their i bought a new car and want to start tuning my car. I want to do it right and safe so i want to know what the basic rules are for modifing my car in california. i plan on just adding a intake system, an exhaust system, a throttle body, and a ecu. Do people who drive modified cars realise how stupid they look? Come on seriously guys. Do you think putting white wheels , couple of extra headlights and a poxy wing on the back of your Fiat Punto is going to turn you into a world class rally driver. You look ridiculous ! And worse still you stick a stupidly oversized exhaust on the back just to make sure we can all hear you coming from 2 miles away At least it gives us a chance to finish our tea before we come out to laugh at you as you drive by Who was that then Dan I have a spanky big car No competition my friend BOLAVO fyi a beamer no contest, and I will cruise by at 150 after they've exhausted their little burst of nitro 100yds down the road mittobridges I agree I don't believe you give two hoots how many of your own neighbours you wake up from sleep when you roar in ROBESPIERRE Historically don't you do that to everyone MISTER SS I agree so long as they don't wake up the rest of the world with it and drive like maniacs DAVE 313 I applaud your knowledge, but what effect are you having on other motorists shining lights a mile ahead of you Also Why do they need to accelerate dangerously faster than other cars. Are you young lads suuddenly more capable drivers overnight than the rest of us. Look at the accident stats ASTRA ANDY Do you think they were compensating for something. Honestly it is like putting a piece of cardboard in the spokes of your bike and saying it's a motorbike DIRTY ROB ILMAO MARK B Good point they look good when done properly and all the sponsors are on the car. If done properly though it should have a complete engine upgrade ANGEL I agree but my little boy just laughs and says "dad, there goes that muppet" when he sees one on the street . The noise is the killer though
Looking for the best websites on modified cars for every country,? Im a secondary school teacher, I want to do a project on cars with students but I want to know my stuff before I start, for example what do american cars that are modified look like and how different are they to Japanese. Is there particular styles in each country etc
How are cop cars modified? Is any work done to the engine? Every time I see cop tearing ass it sounds like they have some kind of supercharger under the hood.
Why are 90% of modified cars owned by foreigners ? Noticed recently, that most of the modified cars are owned by foreigners. those from pakistan and india in particular, really gets on my nerves that i never see a BRITISH driver in UK driving a decent lookin motor when asians get to drive round in the decent cars........just me or is this one hell of a poke in the eye ? lol. i could type sum more but i dont wanna seem racsist lol An answer to someones answer, no i aint jealous, i have my car and am happy with it, its more a case of frustration of Young asian drivers (90% of the time in maxxed out cas) flying round blackburn like that they own the road, exhausts that can be heard a mile away , paint jobs that wud honestly make me embarrassed to even be stood near the car.....so no am not jealous more the point that alot of these people have relativly high powered cars dress em up and have no f****ing clue of how to drive em. makes me wonder how they are afforded AND insured given the apparent age of the driver :) Like i say i dont wanna be racist but yeah id say in my area ( i can only be specific to that) most are of islamic descent. maybe cos most of benefit claims are by these type of people maybe ? or maybe because the White Englishman is becoming more and more a minority in our own country ?
Boy racers or people who know about modified cars . . . . . ??? I don't know much about cars but I wanted to buy a DVD screen for the front of my car, I found one on eBay in a car http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Celica-ST2-0-Modified-Car-Audio-DVD-Screen-Subs-Focal_W0QQitemZ220142751349QQihZ012QQcategoryZ18290QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem It is the 3rd picture down on the left if you scroll to the bottom of the page. I just wondered if anyone knew what they are called ? My friend said he thought they were called DVD Head Units as it says on the description on eBay, but when I type it in it doesn't have the ones where the screen flips out ( Which is what I want so people can't see I have one! ) Sorry about the simple car jargon words. I will choose a best answer. Thanks. Leecavcu - Boy racers mainly have them in their cars, if you go to a car show or something like that you notice 9/10 boy racer cars have them. Also, just to clear this up - It won't be me watching the film! It will be my passengers, I won't be putting myself or them in any danger and headphones will be in it so it doesn't distract me - I will pull up at a service station to change the movie.
Do Modified cars loose value? Such as car engine part to make the car go faster and stuff. Because i saw this car that usually goes up for 20k go for 11k and the modified one is cheaper.

How to learn to fix, maintain, and modify cars? I'm a fairly new driver that has really got into cars the past couple of years. I know how to do all the basic stuff (oil changes and what not) but I really want to learn how everything in a car works and how to fix them, if there is ever a problem. Also, I'm really into Nissan z's and mustangs, cars that are always being modified, and I would like to know how to install those. Is there any good informative books or movies out there that teach you this stuff?
Black Headlights on modified cars? I have heard that smoking the headlight's reflector would minimize the vision to a great extend. But i have seen in many of the modified cars that the reflector part is black. Is it the new set of headlights or is it smoked? doesnt that minimize the vision? Just open this link to see the normal headlight and the modified headlight: http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/3674/123agi.jpg

best sport and modified cars city? if i love sport cars ,modified cars ,low rids and all, which city is best known for this? i mean a lots of hangouts and stuff? i mean like the movie "Fast & Furious"
Insurance for modified cars? I recently renewed my car insurance in January. I wanted to get a quote as I want to mod my car, but had to put it off for another year as the insurance is just ludicrously expensive, and I ended up insuring with Elephhant (standard) I have a 1.6 Honda Civic as companies such as Livingston's Warman, Sky Insurance and Adrian Flux were quoting me in excess of £1200. I have two years no claims bonus and am 27. My (standard) quote with elephant cost me £450 but only with my mum as a second driver. Are there any companies out there who cater for modified car owners, and live int he real world. I am not looking to add any wild body kits, just simple mods like wheels, suspension, brakes, exhaust etc.
if you are American and konw modified cars,go into here!!!? Do you know the film "the fast and the furious"?in America,do the modified cars races are held in the night likes film says? underground races are held before the cops come?Is it truly happened in Amreica?Have you even apart in the events?

Do modified cars need to be run for long periods before use? My idiot neighbour and I can't stress idiot enough has this modified car he bought a few years ago. Suffice to say he is not the kind of guy I want to go and have a chat with but once when I went over I asked him about something with his car. Before he uses the car and when he comes back after using the car, he leaves the car running for long periods. And when I mean long, I mean 5-15 minutes at a time. Sometimes doesn't even use the car just starts it up and runs it for I am not kidding 20-30 minutes and then just turn it off. He mentioned that its because the parts get so hot that if you turn it off quickly they meld together. Now a friend of my mother's heard it one day while visiting and being a mechanic he couldn't get his head around this. Being he has worked on many different forms of cars I can't imagine he and not the neighbour would be correct. He said it would just ruin the engine and car. Living in a sub-tropical climate as well there is never any need to warm up a car like you would in very cold climates. So can anyone tell me if this dumb ass is correct in his theory or is he ruining his car? Just on the points you are making, I can understand the few minutes thing and keeping it lubricated. But in some cases it really does run for 20-30 minutes. I mean that seems like it would do damage to the car because its just wearing out the parts.

Modified Cars on UK TV Adverts? Does anyone know if theres a reason why adverts on TV that, for any specifc reason involve a car, tend to have the car modified so as not to look like a current model. For example a few adverts that I can think of are : Direct Line .. where the bricks fall on the car .. this looks like a hybrid of a BMW and SAAB. DVLA TAX Licence .. Where the car is crushed when he attempts to open the door, this again looks like to different models that have been debadged and chopped together. Ford Mondeo or Fiesta .. where all the cars are attached to balloons .. all these cars are unrecognisible Would this be copyright or would the manufacturers insists on payments if their products are used in other adverts ... any ideas ?
Place to buy used cars with modified hand control systems? What I'm asking is, does anyone know of any websites or if local businesses exist where they have for sale used cars already modified with hand control systems? Here's the story: I'm disabled, trying to try to drive (not sure if I'll be able to.. spatial disorder issue), but money is an issue. And I figured it'd be hell of a lot cheaper to buy an already-modified-for-disabled-people car than to buy a regular car, then buy the hand control modification, then do any other modifications I may need and whatnot. So the idea is, having a pool of already-modified cars I'd be able to pick one that suits my needs best, instead of picking up pretty much a cheap clunker as that's all I can afford, then spending who knows how much to modify it for my driving NEEDS (all I NEED is a hand control system). Bonus question: Is there any kind of special - adaptive/adapted - driving test for disabled people? Or is the driving test the same for everyone?
How much would it cost to tow my modified car? I need to tow my car about 2 miles because the clutch blew out. AAA would not tow it because it was modified (rims and muffler). Any ideas or suggestions to tow truck companies that would tow a modified car? And more importantly, how much would it cost?
Is there a solar kit to modify cars? I'd rather pay $3K to modify my car than to buy a new one. If I can modify my car to use solar E or run on veg oil, I'd rather go that route. Hope someone can help. Haven't been successful in finding help with this.
Modified Street racers or Classic muscle cars? For me it has to be the sheer grunt and power of muscle cars, not some tuned up Corsa thats makes a lot of noise but hardly moves. ((AC Cobra and Plymouth Superbird ftw)) Owners of Street racers can prance around saying how cool their tuned fiesta is, but under all that neon and bodykits, its just a old fiesta. Anyway what do you lot think?
Can military members be given tickets for modified cars even if its registered in another state? I bought my honda in texas from the dealership, it came with a 5% factory tint. I placed an exhaust on it as well. I joined the US ARMY infantry and was stationed in california. I recently got a ticket by a California Highway Patrol officer for my "illegal tint and exhaust". If my drivers liscense, car insurance, registration, liscense plate, place of residence, is from or in Texas...and i pay taxes to texas, then can they give me a ticket for my car in california? my car was smogged in california and it meets the requirements. i have a court date and would like to fight the ticket. are military members exempt? after all, i am not a resident of california and my car is not required to be registered here. i mean in the military we have cars regsitered from alaska, germany, japan, etc. does that mean because we are temporarily in california our cars have to meet their rules? who's going to pay for it? i certainly can't afford it! Please only answers with FACTS! i need it 4 court! thanks!
Question about prices effects on modified cars - Audi S4? I am looking to buy an Audi S4 and was wondering if cars that have had significant modifications take away from the value of the car at all? For instance, here is one I like. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=ADME%3AL%3ARTQ%3AUS%3A1&viewitem=&item=300066462972&rd=1 Thanks, Gary
how do you feel about a modified car that is automatic? why does everyone think that it is for racing... if i wanted to race, then i would of gotten a stick. you guys are such idiots, you think everyone with a stick, races..no they do not.. but thanks for answering, considering that it is base on your own opinions..people have different opinions about the automatic car.
What are the common things street racers do when they modify their cars? No, I'm not planning to be like them (heck I can't even drive yet XD) I just find it interesting, the way they turn normal cars to speed machines. Plus they also look pretty cool, how do they do that? What are some of the most popular parts they use? P.S. If you're a street racer yourself, feel free to tell me what you did. I really am curious.
Selling a modified car to a dealer? I currently own a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT. I have made some modifications to the car, such as: lowering springs & custom wheels. I am in a pinch now & need to sell my car quickly. I would like to sell it to a dealer so that I can purchase another car that is more suitable for families. My question is: can I take the car "as-is" to the dealer? Or should I put the factory springs/wheels back on the car before I trade it in? Any answers are appreciated! Thanks!
