What can legally be done to modify a car that the insurance companies are not bothered about? Cos I'm 17 and with insurance prices etc, Is there anything I can work on, I believe they increase the price with alloys, what about things like exhausts, lights and tinted windows? And modifications welcome. Thanks for you help up front

Tips on how to get first time drivers car insurance down? Hey, so I have my driving test on June 3rd but i am looking to buy a car before then in these next few weeks. Ive been getting some quotes on some possible cars but the cheapest quote i am getting is £4,500, which is absolutly ridiculous! I thought £2,000 was pushing it and i dont intend to pay more than £2,000 a year. The cars ive been looking at are Peugot 206s, Vauxhall Corsa SXI, and Renault Clio's. Which i believe are in the cheapest insurance band. I just dont understand why im getting quotes of £4000/5000. Most of my firends with similar cars pay £1,500 a year which seems right. I must be doing something wrong. Can anyone give me tips on how to get the price down. Should i add my mum as an additional driver? Do modified cars (alloys and tinted windows) dramatically increase the insurance price? Any reccomended insurance companies? Thanks guys!

Can you add bigger alloy wheels to a car? Sorry for my ignorance. I just bought a Misubishi Lancer (I think its the 2006 model with either 1.6 or 1.8). Im not sure about this because it was given as a gift to me. Anyhow, the wheels size is 195/60 R15. And i am wondering if its possible to actually add bigger wheels to it? I want to add alloy wheels but it only looks good when the alloy wheel itself has a wider diameter. Please advise. Im new to this car modifying thing. Although this is even lower then basic hehe. Am I better off buying a pre-modified car or doing it myself (read description)? So Im wanting to have a modified car (so have tints, alloys, exhaust, lexus lights), am I better off buying one thats already been modified so I dont need to do anything/partly done (so just like tints and alloys maybe), or buying a stock car and doing it myself. change from 14" to 16" Alloy wheels for my car!!!!!? I'm a fan of street modified cars and i sport a ford fiesta Zxi, i've already added alot of gizmo-gadgets to it like GPS, TFT, DVD surround, underbody neon etc . Its on the wheels i want to attack next, the car has moderate looks, but the wheels define it all just like we have shoes. The fiesta's wheels are like baby shoes and it gives way the rest of it. now here's my question, can i fit 16" alloy wheels with low profile tyres to my car without major modifications? also if i need to go in for new better suspensions, which ones should i go for, i am aware that i might have to change the drums with different pcd, can anyone be specific? thanks

Question about car modifications effecting car insurance premiums (UK only)? Hi. Basically.. I'm a young new driver and i want to modify my car. Now, before you go off on one thinking im some stupid boy racer, this is not the case, and i do NOT mean those types of modifications. Basically there are 4 things i want done to my car: 1) Fit a spoiler which IS standard on the higher models of my car. 2) Colour code the bumpers, side skirts and newly fitted spoiler. 3) Install front fog lights. 4) Fit some *Citroen* Alloy wheels, which are also standard on the higher models of my car. So, in reality i'm not actually changing much, just changing a few things similar to a higher model. My car is only a 1.1L. I'm wondering what effect each of these modifications will have on my insurance.. could you give me a seperate guess for each please? Also, as it's not even changing the car really.. would i even need to mention them? I mean, what harm does fitting fog lights make? yea but all the modifications are effectively factory ones.. my car will look NO different from another car straight out the factory.. all citroen parts etc

What is a nice modified car for a girl? Would I be able to use these Honda Accord OEM alloy rims on my car? I have a 2005 Honda Accord LX V6 sedan. It currently has the original wheels that came with it (hub caps and whatnot.) The wheel size is 16". boost car engine horse power? i have a 1.3liter 4 cylinder toyota yaris `and i was woundering if there was something i could do or modify in the engine to make it a bit more powerfull, like its kinda weak and i like driving fast well over 150K the car takes quite some times to get there and when i do reach that speed the car begins vibrating and i feel like its gona rip apart, so i removed the back to seats as weight reduction and i changed the wheel size from 15'' to 16 with alloy rings and i just need a power boost and i was planning on raising the car by a few inches, and help or sugestions on any of these would be helpful , thanks

Car Insurance - Quinn direct premium help please !!? Hi im 17 and have a renault clio 1.2 billabong it has side skirts and front and back bumper is modified. It has alloy wheels and tinted windows. I cant find insurance anywhere. I came across quinn direct there cheap for insurance ( i have a provisional licence) Ive been on some reviews that say they increase your premium once you pass your driving test. Do Alloy wheels on cars distort with normal use? My son has a car fitted with alloy wheels. When MoT'd the garage said 3 of the 4 wheels were not running true and need correction, apparently 4mm out of true. Correction (apparently) involved heating the wheels up, and then placing under a press to bend 'straight'. I have not heard of this with alloy wheels before. As his car is special to him he will NOT have hit a kerb. However, the car has been modified and the suspension is very low and hard. The wheels are painted and they show NO signs of being heated to high temperatures (which I would have expected, i.e. discolouration of the paint). There was obviously a charge for this. Have we been 'had' or do alloy wheels distort under these conditions. Some advice would be appreciated. Many thanks.

I have a modified 2000 (w) Ford mondeo 2ltr mk2 hatchback, metallic dark blue with twin chrome exhaust system with clear lexus lights, lowered with cosworth 16" alloy wheels, and a wicked sound system, clifford concept cat1 alarm system with auto start & window wined up,only 50.000 on the clock from new, i spend 4 hours every Sunday waxing & polishing it, no scratches or dents or chips,it has never let me down, does not go on long journeys thats why the mileage is low, but i do hate parking, the only problem i hate when going out in it, is parking in dam Asda car parks, clumsy big 4x4 drivers trying to get in a little space designed for a Mini, people not taking care when opening there doors, have you suffered the same problem?, a guy the other day parked right nere to mine then suddenly opened his door very quickly and bashed my rear door, i went mad, look what your doing, he then said, sorry sir, mines a company car, i said, mine is not.....so now i avoid the crowed car parks... Audi TT (2008 model) - should I put a body kit on? Anybody who knows anything about cars your help would be appreciated!... My new Audi TT will be ready in the next week or so. It's coming from the factory with Xenon headlights and 18" 10 spoke bicolour alloys. It's metallic black. I thought it would be fine as it is but my brother says I should modify it. Will 17" tyres fit on my Peugeot 206 GLX? One for the petrol-heads out there: I just got a Peugeot 206 GLX W-plate (2000) and would like to get some alloys for it.. I currently have 175/65/r14 tyres on it, I'm sure that means they're 14", but someone out there will know more than me! Mainly, I need to know if they will fit easily without doing anything to the wheel arches, suspension etc. Also, I guess the width matters, but like i say, I'm a n00b without a clue! I'm sure there's an easy answer, but I need to be sure before I blow 420 quid on these.. I've heard something about low-profile tyres, is this important? I cant see anything on Halfords page describing the tyres you get with the wheels.. Many thanks!

Can you help me figure out a way to fit vw beetle tires and OEM wheels on my 2003 Volkswagen Passat GL? I got a great deal on some OEM alloy wheels and tires which came from a Volkswagen Beetle. I looked on Discount Tires website and it said the tire type ( 225/45R17) would fit on my 2003 Volkswagon Passat GL as an oversized option. Well, I went to put the wheels and tires on my car and the spaces do not line up with where the bolts go. I am replacing the original tires which came with steel hubcaps and were sized195/65R15. Can someone help me figure out if there is a way to modify the car to make these fit? Or am I S.O.L? Thanks so much!

what size of alloy wheels would fit a 1999 saxo 1.1L eastcoast? with out modifications needed i want new rims on my saxo i can found some i like that are 15" and are just under £300 but i wanna know how big i can go before i need to modify the body of the car to fit the wheels i just passed my test yesterday but the alloys on it, are like wrecked they are all scratched and tbh look like they are made of plastic and cost 50 quid lol

Can a Insurance company refuse to cancel my policy? I was involved in a accident were a 3rd person hit my car and accepted liability. My insurance company collected my car to Ford to undergo repairs. 3 Weeks later I got a call to say they have stopped work as my car is "modified" and I never notified them. Apparently the alloy wheels and speaker upgrade count as a modification. I got my car back and 3rd party insurance completed the works. Anyway... received a letter stating Insurance company requires so many bits of documentation from me or they will cancel my policy. A little P off I called them and basically wanted to cancel my insurance. I was told I am unable to cancel my insurance whilst my account is under investigation and I have to continue with my monthly payments until the underwriters have made a decision. Is this allowed? I am paying for a service of which I am not receiving as they have said I will not be covered whilst the investigation is ongoing. Please help, recently lost my job and have now sold vehicle, but continually making payments even though I am not covered :( For them refusing to cancel were do I stand legally? If I cancel payment wouldn't I still be liable for payment? I don't like debt collectors... When they talk about modification I thought its about changes to performance. The alloys on the car are ST alloys which could of been on there from new. The speakers on the other hand sound louder? But why should they care what my system sounds like? Head unit has not been changed. I brought the car with these modifications and I was unaware until Ford brought it to light. Who_is_jack*** are you serious about them may wanting to prosecute me? I am really scared.

I'm looking to get a hold of some stock OEM rims to modify but having a bit of a hard time looking/search for oem rim sizes of other car makes and models. Its got to be a 5 x 4.50 or 5 x 114.3 lug 15" size. Width doesn't matter too much as long as its 6.5" or more. This isn't a wanted ad, I'm looking for the car make, model, and years so I can look up the style rim. Alloy rims or steel rims. Style I'm looking for it more or a truck type rim.

help with my kitted ford ka? Hi i have a sick ford ka that i am trying to get ready for its mot, all the sills seem fine, the exhaust does smoke quite a bit when first started so think this could fail the emmissions test. also iv noticed that the timing belt does not go round all the tension wheels there is one below the power steering pump that is not being used i believe it could be the water pump wheel. also when i drive the car it speeds up as normal but then all of a sudden it slows down and seems like a brake is being pressed then it will go back to normal accelerating quickly then slowly again when it starts going slow it wont go above 50 mph. i am wondering if this has something to do with the pulley wheel or tension wheel under the power steering pump not being used?? i could do with a ford ka enthusiast to pop over an take a look as mechanics these days seem to tell you it needs everythin when it dosnt lol. also need help with front bumper its a modified bumper and i need help getting it back on after taking it off to repair it. also the previous owner has took out the wheel arch covers so that the 16" alloys dont scrape will this fail the mot as the power steering pipes used to connect to the covers and they are now just dangling at the front under radiator could i strap the to the sub frame? or do i need to get wheel arch covers back in? i am changing the alloys back to 15" It would be ashame not getting this sick ford ka back on the road. its a t reg 1.3i only done 64.000 mile.

Modifying a leased vehicle when I am planning to buy out? Just looking for a little advice on my situation. I apologize in advance for my use of car lingo, as you will likely be able to tell I am not very knowledgeable in anything to do with automobiles. So my husband has made some alterations on our leased Mazda (done without my knowledge) and I am a little concerned that we may be charged, or our agreement voided for what he has done before we can buy out. For instance if they do the inspection before the buy out, or if they see it for regular maintenance (which we have confirmed already we do not have to do through them), or if we get into an accident and have to claim insurance. First of all, it's a four year term with a fairly small buy out and we only decided to lease as our finances could not support otherwise at the time, it was all the dealership would offer us. And he has also kept all original parts where applicable. What he has done : Painted front and back grill red (yuck - its on a silver car) Replaced the grill on the original body kit to a silver mesh (using silicone glue-not the grill he painted) Painted the wiper blades red (i know, what was he thinking!) Changed the exhaust tip, or added to it Stuck deco's on the car, by sticky tape Replaced the antenna Put a sub in for the stereo (and is planning to change the original deck) Put our alloy rims on the car, they are an inch larger than the original rims, i think 17" So, the question really is.. Will I be charged, or my contract voided for any of these changes if seen before the term is up by the dealership, if so what? And if I am bringing the car in to complete the buy out paperwork and pay for the car would they still charge me?

modified car insurance? i have a car that i am planning to modify(bodykit, respray, alloys, tinting). i want to know if i modify my car doi have to tell the insurer i have done so, coz dis makes the premium a lot higher and if i dont and i crash what can heppen. are they still going to cover the car minus the modifications or are they just going to back out.
