Progressive is hiking my Massachusetts car insurance rate by 23% this year! Is that normal? My policy is about to come up for renewal and they're going to hike up my rate by 23%! I just talked to their customer service person and she said they're doing it all over Massachusetts. Are all the car insurance companies raising their rates so much in Massachusetts? Was there some law that passed which changed their profit margin or something? Is there another car insurance company that will give me a better deal?

Minor citation affecting car insurance (massachusetts)? I accidentally pulled in front of a hearse just before an intersection. There were patrol cars in front of it, for which I pulled over and let pass. I thought there was an emergency, and so pulled out after they had passed. The car I pulled in front of was a hearse, but I couldn't see that it was. An officer stopped me and said I'd get a citation in the mail (though he didn't look at my liscence or registration). I feel bad that I interrupted the procession, but I didn't do it purposefully or willfully; it was a mistake (I've had to ride in a hearse before, I understand). I am just worried about a citation like this appearing on my driving record and affecting my insurance. I don't really undertsand the full consequences of this type of violation. Is this something I could (or should even) contest? Thanks for your help!!

I got pulled over for NO CAR INSURANCE IN MASSACHUSETTS!! HELP!? My insurance policy expired and I didnt realize it wasnt renewed until I was pulled over for NO INSURANCE... question about massachusetts car registering laws and why i got a ticket for avoiding insurance premiums? i live in massachusetts but have a new hampshire ID. my father is the primary owner of my car and lives in NH, and im the co-owner. My dad recently got a $500 ticket in the mail from the Police Chief in my massachusetts town for $500 for avoiding taxes and insurance premiums by not registering my car in massachusetts. is there any way to fight this ticket? maybe because my dads the primary owner so it has to stay with NH tags? My Massachusetts motor vehicle insurance carrier is terrorizing me, please help.? I was involved in a rear-end motor vehicle accident in Massachsuestts one month ago. The person who crashed into me from behind is from Massachusetts and owns the car that rear-ended my car. Both cars had insurance. The defendant's insurance company has already accepted 100% liability for the accident. The problem, however, is my own insurance company is investigating my claim! I did nothing wrong. My own insurance company recently had me undergo an examination under oath in the office of the law firm that they use to represent them. 'During the examination, the attorney showed my a copy of my criminal record (which had nothing to do with my accident). My question is-----isn't a person's criminal record private? How can an insurance company simply get a person's criminal record when (a) it had nothing to do with the accident and (b) no lawsuit has even been filed. Isn't this an invasion of my privacy since i never consented to them having it, yet, they got a copy of it. Please help

The owner of the vehicle I was in lives in Rhode Island, where the car is also Registered and Insured. The insurance policy is a bare minimum policy. I have no household automobile insurance policies and do not own a car. I live in an apartment. I am not on anybody's insurance policy. My question is, "If it becomes necessary, can I file suit against the driver of the motor vehicle and his insurance carrier in Massachusetts.......or must I file suit in Rhode Island where the accident happened, where the defendant lives, and where the defendant's motor vehicle is registered and insured. Please refer me to any Massachusetts and/or Rhode Island statutes that might be helpful. Thank you.
Return of Insurance Deductible. I live in Massachusetts. Was involved in car accident.? My own insur. co. concluded that I was at fault and surcharged me. I appealed the surcharge and was found NOT TO HAVE BEEN MORE THAN 50% at fault for the accident. My insur. co. reversed the surchargable points that was initially assessed against me but refuses to refund my $500 deductible, claiming that they believe I was at fault for the accident (despite the surcharge board of appeals--a higher authority---finding the opposite). So here is my question-- How can my own insur. co. keep my $500 deductible (that should be assessed against me IF I AM FOUND TO BE AT FAULT FOR AN ACCIDENT---when I was found NOT TO BE AT FAULT BY THE SURCHARGE BOARD OF APPEALS----My understanding is I must pay my deductible when I AM AT FAULT!----What good is it to exercise my right of appeal if my own insur. co. can ignore the finding of the appeals board? Please refer to a statute and/or reg. if you can when answering this question. I repeat, I WAS FOUND NOT TO BE AT FAULT.

Answerer #2 was correct with the Use Tax. However, MA has a reciprocity agreement with N.C., so I will have to pay the difference of 2% (5% in MA, and 3% in N.C.). So...a couple hundred vs. 800+. The tax is assessed at the registry of motor vehicles. I had too call the MA Dept. of Revenue for answers. Now...we'll see what happens at the counter of the RMV.

If you relocate outside of Massachusetts and register your car in another state, do you need to return plates? I recently moved out of Massachusetts and just put my car on the road in another state. I spoke with my insurance carrier who said I needed to return the plates in person to the DMV and since this was not a possibility, said that I could just destroy the plates or keep them, and I did not have to worry about returning them to the DMV. I just want to make sure this is actually true, as when I moved out of New York State I failed to return my plates and as a result had my license suspended for over two years (the time it took between when I took my car off the road in NY and returned the plates). I did find an address where plates can be mailed but my insurance carrier told me not to mail them because they often get lost in the mail. Does anyone know for certain what the Massachusetts policy is? Thanks in advance!

I hit a parked car and my car was totaled...? I live in Massachusetts. The insurance company totaled my car out and the repair estimate was around 2000. The Blue Book Value of my car is around 2500-2700. I would rather keep my car and have it repaired than get a settlement that I'm still waiting on, but I was told that because it was 100 percent at fault accident, that I have no right to ask to keep the car and get the check for repairs. Thanks No i wasn't drunk it was just a stupid mistake. I was driving down a narrow one way and was fumbling around for cds in the car and I sideswiped the car on the side, goin around 20-25. I was at work and I scratched the bumper of a car. Am I liable and does it go on my insurance? I live in MA? I drive a rented Ryder truck while at work and I live in Massachusetts. I'm not sure that the truck being a rental makes a difference. I was wondering if the accident counts toward my record and/or if my insurance has to pay for it. Hit parked car in Massachusetts, no note, but have license plate? While backing up I hit a parked car in a small open parking lot (for many small stores). I parked and checked damage. None to mine, but visible dent to the other car (no paint loss, but pushed in, maybe a few hundred to fix?). I didn't have any pen or paper to leave a note, and waited but didn't see anyone, so I got the license plate # and called my insurance company, but as it's Sunday, they aren't open.
