Classic Car Value Knowledge Base
How can I find the value of a classic car? I would like to find the value of a 1969 Pontiac Fire-bird 400 HO. Kelley Blue book doesn't go back that many years and I tried www.nadaguides.com, but that site doesn't go through questions like Kelley Blue book does and I would like to know if there is a website similar to Kelly Blue books for classic car values. Thanks for any help.
What's the classic car value of a 1969 Pontiac LeMans? The body's in decent shape, original 350 engine, rebuilt tranny. No A/C but has original radio.GTO hood. All guages work and car runs good. Interior is between fair and good condition. The body is straight and seems rust-free other than rust in driver's side rear quarter panel. Could anyone please give me a ballpark value of a car like this?I'm looking for the low-end to the middle spectrum, not high end retail value. Thanks
Wondering how to put value on classic car? Wondering what my 1971 Dodge Charger 383 Magnum be worth in current condition. Current condition: All numbers matching, all original, 200,000 original miles, original paint, 1 owner. Would there be more value if I restored it? Been watching a lot of Mecum and Barrett Jackson.. How do you keep it as original as possible and make it worth as much as possible?
How do I determine the value of a classic car? I have a friend with a 1967 VW Beetle that has been sitting in a garage for 15 years. It does not run and the owner is not sure why and has not tried to get it running. It has some rust, mostly on chrome and in fender wells and some on rear quarter panel. The interior has a couple of tears. The entire car is original as far as I know. How would I determine the value of this vehicle in its current condition? Thanks in advance.
How can I find the value of my Classic car? I inheirited a 1966 Chevy Caprice all in original condition( so needs some T.L.C.) and have no idea what it's worth. Does anyone know of a website or something that takes into account options/condition, etc when assigning value? It has the 396 (big block), with matching numbers, and all power options (seats, windows, AC, etc, all from original), with auto transmission. It's been stored inside since 1978, so is virtually rust-free, just dusty. It is NOT in perfect condition - needs new paint/interior fabric, etc from age. Would love to restore self (inheirited from Grandfather), but realistically by time have time and money....... I'd rather someone else enjoy it. Someone please help me so I don't rip myself off - I have no idea what this is worth!! (My first guess was $1000, but is obviously way too low, according to Ebay, etc) Is there somewhere I can get a more accurate number?
Does a classic car that was ordered export add value to the car? I am going to look at a 1969 mach 1 mustang 428 r code tomorrow. It has a lot of options but one of the things that stuck out on the marti report is that it was ordered out of the export ordering district. It says there was only 59 of them ordered out of there. So does this add any extra value to the car? whats your opinions?
How do I determine the value of a custom classic car? its a 66 el camino custom. Do I just go by book value? Its about 90% restored and many parts have been replaced with high performance racing parts and it does not have the original engine. Do I factor in the cost of all the modifications? This is mainly for insurance issues as I do not plan on selling it.
What is a good way to determine the value of a classic car? I have a 1970 Mustang Grande, extremely original, with only 23k original miles on it. It has a 302 engine. Perfect interior, original paint with very few imperfections, absolutely no rust anywhere. Blue with black vinyl top. Pictures are at http://home.alltel.net/zalgar
will my classic car loose value? i have a 1966 Impala SS which is an original 396 vehicle. for some reason i dont know why the previous owner removed that engine and put a 350 small block. now i want to put back the 396 to increase the value of the car. now my question is since i cant find any of the right year, if i put in one from previous or later years, will i loose value?
will replacing my original classic car engine make it lose value? I inherited a 65 impala ss with the original 283 v8 2 speed transmission, only problem is the engine stalls all the time, it's bad on gas (to put it lightly) and its putters along like its an oversized golf cart. my question is should i rebuilt the 120,000miles engine or just upgrade to something that'll haul ass, the value of the car now is $10,000 and the interior and body are in excellent condition. I'm scared by upgrading the engine I'll destroy the value of the car.
Which classic cars have appreciated in value quickest? I want to get a classic car because I love them, but the only way that I can convince my family to let me have one will be to tell them that it's an investment. I know that classic cars appreciate in value, but which ones appreciate the quickest?
how much value goes away if you have to replace a body panels on an classic car? ive purchased and restoring a 1963 galaxy 500 it in really good shape except a decade or so ago the owner started to remove the paint to get it repainted he only did about 3 panels and then he stoped and never repainted it . he kept it in a barn put those panels have been done completly in by rust other than that it's in really good shape. im gonna replace those panel from another of the same year how would this affect the value of the car.
Been dating this guy for 2mos & he said that I am like a classic car. How should I take that? Dating this guy for 2 months. We were talking about how we feel about each other and he said I am like a classic car, not a special edition car (btw he likes vehicles...boats, planes, cars, motorcycles). He did explain a little that classic cars have more value, but I'm still not so sure how I should take this. Maybe because I don't know much about cars. Should I be offended or take it as a compliment?
If I drive ~5,000 miles per year, and I buy a classic car, will it hold value better than a new car? I'm considering getting a classic car, cost between 10K and 20K, as my primary car. I guesstimate that I'd drive it around 5000 miles a year or less. I'm not thinking of it as an investment, so much as a break even car. New cars drop their value so quickly and even with repairs, I figure I'd be financially better of with a classic. Note that it would be a previously restored car. I'm not a mechanic so I'm not trying to make money by fixing it up.
how can i find a base value for classic cars? I'm looking for a way to determine a base value, similar to a kelly blue book, for classic volkswagons. I am mostly looking at the VW Beetles from the 60's. Is there a resource similar to the blue book to help me out?
Why women dont understand the value of vintage and classic cars? Why most of women dont understand or appreciate the value of vintage and classic cars, like if you want to restore one at home and your wife is daily complaining abut it beaing around and asking you to get rid of it and telling you instead of wasting money on your project buy a new car? why they dont understand for example the diffrence between an old great classic pontiac 1970 firebird and a new 2007 Toyota Yaris? my wife openion is the Yaris worth the money you pay and is the real car and the Firebird is a piece of junk, I wonder ???
How do you determine the value of classic cars and how do you sell them? When my grand father passed away he left me 3 older cars. A 74 buick electra with 20,000 mi, a 1955 cheve truck (very weathered but with good engine), and a 1943 buick roadmaster with 60,000 original mi in mint condition(all parts original).I am currently driving the electra but i wish to sell it. In fact i want to sell them all except maybe the roadmaster. At any rate i need to know the value of the vehicles as well as the best place to sell them.
Does anyone know of a site that can accurately estimate an antique/classic cars value? I am thinking of selling a car that I have owned for over 30 years and would like to get an accurate estimate of it's value. I realize that times are tough for just about everyone, but that shouldn't effect the car's actual value should it? As I have been in the restoration bussiness for many years now, I am very aware of the condition of the auto. It was bead blasted on rotissery just about 3 years ago. Also the drive train (although not original) was completely rebuilt at that time as well. I am just looking for an estimate of value.
Anyone know classic car values? In my ventures on craigslist I was asked today if I would consider trading my vehicle (which I am hoping to get around $7000 for) for a 1978 Pontiac Trans Am. It has the 400 engine with a 350 turbo transmission. I've been trying to figure out about what it's worth but I'm finding a range from $2000-25000 on these cars just based on whether its project condition or show quality. NADA guide lists low-quality retail at 9,750 but I don't really know what to base it off of. Can anyone help me out? Here's what he said it needs done: "The interior is in good condition,it does need a new headliner ,new passenger seatbelt it has one littlte rip in the passenger seat at the seam. The passanger side tail pipe got knocked off thanks to my EX Wife.Runs and drives great.I just had new valve cover gaskets put on last weekend, and a new oil assending unit." Anyone got any idea? Also, even if it is valued at a good price, how tough would something like this be to sell? I don't know what the market is like for 70s classic cars these days.
where can i find the value of my classic cars online? i have a 67 camaro rs ss with 13,500 miles and a 67 shelby gt 500e ss with 16,000. both are in perfect condition, they look like brand new cars. in the shelby i put in racing seatbelts, 14" speakers with subs, a tank of nos, and souped it up for racing.
How do I find celebrities to buy my classic car? I have a classic car and I want to sell it, but I do not want to just sell it to any one because I want to get the best value for my 1962 chevy Impala convertable classic car. I would like to find a way to make contact with any celebrities that might be interested in my car.Thank you for your help. Mary
Value of this particular classic car? Hello everyone, I am restoring a 1977 Chevy El Camino. There is a lot of work to be done and I want an estimate of how much YOU would pay for a completed ’77 El Camino and how much a finished ’77 El Camino would be on the market. Features include: Dual Exhaust 350 Small Block Engine (not original engine) Professional body work and $1500 Metallic Red Paint Job Completed Interior with $1000 new sound system Good condition transmission and suspension Solid frame/body (had some rust and welded patches) New rims and wheels are planned but I do not know which yet. Let’s assume new wheels will be purchased. It’s a very simple list just to give a rough idea since the car is not complete yet. Please give me a rough estimate of how much I could resell this car finished. I want to know how much of a profit (or loss) I will make if I spend the time & money fully restoring it.

How can a 17yearold get insured on a classic car? I'm a 17 year old driver in staffordshire, i'm looking to purchase either a triumph gt6 or a triumph spitfire, however the insurance quotes im getting (even with my dad as the main driver) are over the value of the car! (approx £3500). does anyone know any specialist companies i could contact? thank you in advance
Should I store or sell my classic car? I'm having a hard time selling a classic car which has sentimental value, but I do not have the time and space to work on it right now. I found a place that will store the car, start it and clean it once a month. Is storing this vehicle for the next year or two a bad idea? should i just let go? Suggestions? it's a 79 mb diesel aka gandolf
what does the car value depend on? so im not talking about classic muscle cars more like cars from 1990's and above, does their price go down because of the years past or is it because of the mileage put in it,also when a dealer say great for repairing credit, what do they mean by that?give me other information about car value if u have more thank you in advance
How does a Car's Value work overtime? So I know a car depreciates value until a certain point? Like a 65 Mustang is worth more then it was 10 years ago. So lets say a Brand New Camaro, it will lose value as the next years model comes out, how much value will it lose until it gets to "classic" status??? Thanks Again :)
Question on title transfer of a classic car in WA state? So DOL website say you have to pay taxes on fair market value. I am looking at a car that is for sale for $1500, but low blue book is $10,000. I know they won't let me pay taxes on the $1500. There has to be an easy way around this. What is it?
what makes a car a classic? So what parameters make a car a classic? Age? Appeal? Value? Also, would the car have to be completely factory stock or do modifications affect anything. I currently have a 1988 Nissan 300 ZX.

Would you rip out the air conditioning on a classic, or muscle car? I have stock air in a 73 Duster. It's all in the way, and I hate it. It makes the engine look cluttered and messy as well. ON THE OTHER HAND.... I'm afraid that some day it might decrease the value of the car. Could I just keep the parts? I'm not sure? Any one else face this dilemma? Thanks!
Not original engine in my classic car? Ok so I am selling my Classic car and it was appraised at 13G. The appraisal indicated that its not the original engine and the price was adjusted on it but now the guy wants to offer me 7500 for it because its not original. Does price really matter on a classic car? I know that matching numbers are preferred but the value shouldn't go way down. Its not like its a Studebaker or Rambler or some car they don't make anymore that's worth over 100G right?
Value of classic motorcycles? I'm an expert on the classic car market, but I don't know too much about the collectivity of classic motorcycles. I was just looking at 50's and 60's Harleys for sale, and they didn't seem to be asking much for them. Is there not a big collector's market for older motorcycles, or are certain ones really rare and more valuable? Please let me know, because I'm really curious. I just think the motorcycle market is kind of goofy if a 1950's Harley in perfect shape is worth less then a new one. I wish the car market was that way, because then I could buy a pristine '71 Cuda for 10 grand.
How could car insurance cost more a month than the value of the car? Yes I'm under 21, No I don't have a single ticket , or driving violation . How could insurance on a 500 dollar cherokee cost 290$ a month? In two months thats the value of the car! Its BS there has to be a way to get insurance for cheaper than that. Anybody know of any place? And please don't say Classic insurance as all of them you have to be 25 or older.
Should I keep my classic car as original as possible or modify it? I have a 1971 Dodge Demon (Slant Six) which is in original condition - no rust, runs decent, original yellow paint (which I hate) is fading a little and black and red interior which has a few rips in the seats. When I bought it I was thinking of modifying it by throwing a 360 in it and tricking her out as much as possible, but now I'm not sure because the fender tags and VIN (which are in good condition) won't match up with what I wanted to do with it. Would that decrease the value if I modify the car against what the tags say? I want to to keep it in my family for a long time and pass it on to my kid. I would really appreciate any suggestions anyone might have.
how long before the value of my car goes up and? how do i make that happen? i have a 1994 z28 lt1 camaro. v8 5.7 liter. in 4 years it's a classic car right? 20 years old? i heard you go to the dmv and get a classic plate and you're only allowed to drive your car on sundays is that right? well can someone explain to me how the value goes up on a classic car? thx for all the info. based on what everyone says i think im out of luck. my camaro has 130,000 miles on it. it's bone stock though. it's really buffed, shined and cleaned but it has a few cracks on the lip of the bumper(ez fix). and well this is in new hampshire. but i was just wondering anyway so yea thx.
Value of 1969/70, H Reg, Classic Mini? I have been lucky enough to purchase a 1969/70, H Reg, Mini 1000 (Classic Mini). I am wondering the true value of the car? I understand that generally Mini's go for quite a bit of money. The bodywork on the car is perfect, it's "showroom" quality. The car itself is sky-blue with two, white (go-faster) stripes on the bonnet and a white roof. The car has a brand new clutch, window rubbers, and is fitted with a rather lovely, limited edition rally dashboard. I would never sell the vehicle but would like to know how much it's worth just for the sake of knowing! Is there is a car enthusiast out there that knows the value? Does anyone know the best place to get "Classic Car Insurance" and lastly, the car is fitted with it's original number plate, which has a black background and silver lettering, are these still legal in the UK? Many, many thanks :)
98 jeep cherokee classic value? 1998 jeep cherokee classic 4.0 inline 6, Blown transmission, car has 117,000 miles, clear coat is faded on the hood and top and has some minor electrical problems. engine runs strong. Car has had no real problems other then the transmission. What is this car worth?
Trade-in value of classic corvette? I've been unable to sell my classic 1981 corvette stingray (with only 60k miles) even though it is in excellent, original condition with all documentation. I was considering trading it in on a new model, but I feel that the dealer would not offer enough for the car. What do you think is a fair trade-in value for the car? I know that they can put it in the showroom and get a good sum for the vehicle.
Love for an Australian Classic Car..? Aussie Tough - See a Classic!? Sorry if Car's don't interest you, but to other's it's a lifestyle.. Whether it's Ford or Holden you love, you gotta have respect for a Classic like this! My older brother's car, had a little work done so it's great to finally have her on the road again! I like the Dodge b/c its a 2 dr and a cool colour and flat V. I like the Ford b/c its a 4 dr and the colour and it has a V8 I like the Dodge b/c its a 2 dr and a flat V6 I like the Ford b/c its a 4 dr and it has a V8
how can i get the value of a vehicle 1984 or older, i'm looking at cadillac that is for sale.? the used car dealership where the cadillac is located is asking 8,999 for the vehicle, but the vehicle is in great condition and only has 25,000 original miles so they told me. i tried to look up the value of this vehicle on the kelly blue book & nada web site but neither went further than 1985. nada had a section for classic cars but the value it gave me was no more than 4,000, and the description section wouldn't let me put the miles of the car in. me personaly i think thats alot but the miles are low and the car looks great.
What would the value of this car be......1962 Ford Fairlane? 1962 Ford Fairlane 500 4 door sedan automatic V8 engine, all original trim and glass, running perfectly fine but has minimal problems with the ignition switch, paint is deteriorating but the body has no dents, and the interior could use a makeover too. My dad knows a guy who drives a junk truck who is always sending classic cars to the scrap yards and asked him to give him a heads up if ever he sees another so my dad could purchase it. He bought it for $600 and is looking to resell. We were just curious what the high-end & low-end of price ranges would be, and any advice on reselling it. Thanks
In an accident with an older car, how is value determined?? I am considering buying a "classic". Are they more expensive to insure?? And ALSO, if I were to get in an accident, how do they determine the value on that. I know about Blue Book/NADA, but I always thought that was more of a guideline for current cars?? Just curious. Thanks!! :)
Which is the best anti-theft system (or method) for classic cars? Please share your opinions based on 2 scenarios: 1) If you had a no-holds-barred busget and could install the best system at any cost. 2) If you are a college student and can only spare below $300 for a solution. My classic car is worth about $25K and I have put some work on it already so it is more emotional value than anything else. A friend suggested I disconnect a spark plug wire when leaving it in questionable areas and once I forgot to reconnect it...The car started just fine and I didn't realize it until about 3/4 of the way home and noticed some performance issues off-highway. Others say to install a battery cutoff switch. This switch can be found by experienced thieves though....maybe? Maybe the best method is a combination of 2 or more systems. I drive my car about 3 times per week.
Your Preference for Classic Cars: Customization or Restoration? I am somewhat of an amateur auto enthusiast. Right now, I find myself in a pretty good position to purchase a 60s-70s model fixer-upper to either customize or restore... but one primary concern is the car's future value as it relates to my immediate choice of customization/modernization, or total restoration. My personal preference since I will be driving the vehicle often, is customization. I would like to modernize the interior, electrical, A/V system, engine, exterior, etc. I have no problem with restoration, but I just feel like customization/modernization is the best bet for me to be comfortable driving. I have heard professional car customizers/installers say that CUSTOMIZED classic vehicles often do not hold value throughout the years... and often lose value beyond the cost of what was actually put into upgrades... but that factory-condition/RESTORED classic cars DO hold their value. Is this true? What, if any, value loss am I looking at if I customize vs. restore? Just to clarify... I am not doing this to turn around and resell... I am doing it to have a "cool" car to drive around. But, I guess what I worry about, is buying the car for $3,000... putting $5,000 of upgrades into it... but only being able to get $4,000 or $5,000 for the vehicle if I ever DO decide to sell it (because it is custom vs. original condition). I am just trying to guage whether the loss in value due to customization actually exists, and whether or not it is significant enough to impact my decision of taking on this project. :) FYI those numbers I threw out were just guesses... I anticipate spending significantly more the whole way around, but you get what I am trying to say (I hope).
Classic Car Valuation - SLR 5000 Torana? I need some advice about how to sell and value my Torana SLR5000. Its technically 138/75 which I have been told is the 138th car made in 1975 but is a 1976 torana as that’s the year it was released. It is an LX SLR5000 and has a kingswood engine in it. It has weld plates in the back and a fire extinguisher inbetween the front two seats and a racing steering wheel – clearly it has been raced as some stage. Its in really good condition with one tiny patch of rust I can see about 1.3” long on door. Seeing as they vary from about 10K to 176K and I have fallen in love with the car completely but circumstances in my life have changed and I need to buy a house for me and my son to live in I need to start thinking of selling it and get the most amount I can. If I can't get the value I at least want to put it on the market for what I hoped but not sure how to extract relevant car information. Thanks in advance
classic cars question.? hey , I have a 1955 buick century, but the engine is messed up , Its got a blown piston I think , anyway , the dudes at the mechanic shop say I should replace the original engine to a chevy 350. but would that lower the value of the car, because every thing else on the car is original? or would it be better to rebuild the engine. I am planning on selling the car to a classic car collector, after I get it running again.
i dont know how to find the value of a classic vehicle on kelly bluebook? it only gives me the option to check the value of cars from the 80's to now and the vehicle i need to value is from the 60's. is there a site i can go to to get the blue-book value of an older vehicle? better yet does anyone know what a 1965 Chevy step-side truck is worth? it is unrestored and needs some body work , nothing major, it runs and drives well, it has a 230 straight 6 . the guy who has it is saying its worth 6,500 as it is, does that sound way off?
Im wanting to sell my 1965 el camino classic as fast as possible but can not afford to pay for AD PLACEMENT u My car is a classic 1965 el camino. It was given to me by a friend who has now passed. I am financially strapped right now and need to sell A.S.A.P.The blue book value for this car was around $6,950.I am asking for $4000. Is this muscle car site real? Somebody please help me? http://www.collectorcarsforsale.com/ That is the site with the muscle cars for sale. I REALLY need to know if it is legit or not. I need some help because I love muscle cars to death. And this seems like a perfect buy. But it also seems WAY too good to be true. http://www.collectorcarsforsale.com/classic-cars-for-sale/l2430.html That is one of the 68 mustangs for sale. I know this car is REALLY expensive, but the parts on it seems brand new, not the actual original. I know putting the new parts on a muscle will lower the value but this seems way too unreal. I really really need help with this. Could the car also be just one big remake? Because I know you can remake an entire body. I really need answers if this is legit or not. And why is it so cheap.
What is the future of classic vehicle collecting? Once our high octane fuel is gone and we have that nice dime piece in mint condition in our garage we've kept for so many years and now probably would only run on some sort of alternate fuel or a modified engine. How is that going to change the value of a car for a collection piece or any car in that case that can still run on alternate fuel or has been modified?
Does anyone want to buy a Classic Oldsmobile ? 1977 Cutlass Supreme 2 door Showroom Condition.Listed on Cars.com I really need to sell it. Or trade for a Mini Cooper. Or what ever you have of same value. This car only has 61,300 actual miles on it. Interested ? e-mail me from the cars.com listing. Or from this question.
How much should I sell this car for on ebay? It's a 1975 corvette in okay condition. It runs fine, it's automatic, and the paint is peeling a little bit near the front right tire. I know it's a classic and was just wondering if there's anyone on here that knows about old cars and their values. Please don't say $10 and think I'm going to sell it to you. I am really honestly wondering. Oh, and it's got I thin 35,000 miles on it. So much fun to drive! Alright! 200 grand! woo hoo! ;) you ment 2 grand, right? No, my husband bought a brand new engine for it a few years back and rarely drives it...it really does have 35,000 miles.
