Classic car restoration question for the body work pros? When restoring an old 60's model chevy, how much would a good body shop charge to fix rusted areas around the windshield and back glass? Is it a lot of work? When choosing a car to restore, are there areas that might be rusted that make a car not worth messing with? I can do everything myself except body work, that just isn't my knack.
Where can i buy a classic car for restoration? I would like to restore a classic car (from the '60s or less) and don't know where to buy it. I guess i could do ebay, but would like a place to physically buy it. I am located in New Jersey, so if you know a place, please help me out.. Thanks, -BK
how much should I expect to spend on classic car interior restoration? I currently have a 1968 Pontiac Firebird in the process of being restored on the exterior. I am looking to restored its interior as well (new seat covers, carpeting, door panels, dash), would anyone know how much est. this project would run? And about how much would a really impressive paint job for the exterior run for?
What Television Show's can I submit a classic car too for restoration? My Father bought a 1970 Land Rover in Africa Brand new, it has fallen into a sad state of repair. I would like to have it restored and cannot afford it. Im looking for a restoration tv program that will take submissions...kind of like "Pimp My ride"...but more restoration based. Correction: It is a RANGE Rover, Not a Land Rover.
How to get into car restoration? I want to get into car restoration, classic to be exact. I want to know how to get into it. I've always wanted to make it a hobby and just restore cars on the side and sell them for profit, but should i pursue it as a career since i have a huge love of classic cars? What will i need to begin meaning should i buy tools first or start getting books or should i go to college for it or what? For reference, i am about to go to college and i just want to know how you would possibly start this. I kind of want to make a business out of it, but i'm still deciding.
Any classic car restoration answers out there? Concerning an engine dress up kit, I have seen some paint finishes referred to as "crinkle paint" and "wrinkle paint." Are they one in the same or two different finishes? Also and more importantly, is a wrinkle finished piece of steel resistant to rust? This is the dress up kit I'm considering: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PRO-141-758/ 10pts for best answer. Thanks in advance.
Kit Car or Classic Car Restoration? I'm having trouble making this decision: should I build a Factory Five kit car or should I find an classic car such as a Mustang or a Corvette and restore it?
Looking for Website for classic car restoration?? I am restoring a 1970 Camaro ss z28 and I am having a hell of a time finding a good website wee I can order parts to restore and beef up this car. I am skilled in the craft just don't have the parts yet. Anyone have any good reliable website they can offer or any other resources I can use. Thanks, Wade
classic car restoration? Hi, my name is blaze and my dream is to own a classic car. When I first started looking i wanted a 67 mustang fastback like the one from gone in 60 seconds but that was pretty much shot down because of money. Even a 67 not running and has a lot of rust was like 6000 well for a fastback. I almost got a coupe that was not running but just needed a few things like a new carborator and other stuff and one little spot of rust for only 3500 I thought the guy was crazy but I didn't want to argue with him ha ha .So now my first question: since the mustang is not affordable, what is a cheaper way to go for a stylish, affordable classic car. I also have been looking for a old firebird , trans am and camaro like 69-74, also I would like to add that I want to drive this car everywhere. I wouldn'd just keep it in my garage and only drive it one day a week. Also if you know what kind of engines these cars have . and which is the best for them for,MPG,price, performance. one last question I am not that mechanical I mean I have been toying around with my little POC dodge neon but i hate it! it doesnt work well and its always dieing and I pretty much know every part of an engine and their purpose and how engines work, but not how to install or uninstall them.one last question, is there like kits for the unexpienced for like engine where they send all the parts to build and engine from scratch and drop it in my 74 trans am or maybe camaro.thanks for all the help
Classic car restoration help? i found a part online (shift collar made by Dorman part number 83242) i want to know what vehicles it fits and will it fit my 1961 ranchero 2 speed? thank you all
Classic car restoration? Does anyone know a good place or person in washington (not dc) that could possibly restore a 1965 Buick Riviera?
What classic car should I get? I'm planning to try to get my license within the next year & I'd like to get a classic car & to do a restoration project with it. I'm interested in getting a Pontiac GTO but I'm open to other suggestions. Anyone have any other ideas? Just for the record, this would be my first car.
How much money would I make if I owned a Restoration shop? so in the future I want to own my own classic car restoration shop. I want to restore old cars for a living. How would I make my money though? How much money could I make? Ive seen on tv where a guy traveled around the U.S. looking for old cars and then restoring them and putting them in an action. Is that the only way?
options on how to tow a heavy rear wheel drive car? (classic car in need of restoration)? I have to move a classic car that weighs 4500 lbs a distance of 120 miles, not thru any heavy traffic(rural driving, but for much of the distance, I have to keep up with other traffic). I recently purchased a heavy duty van that can tow up to 7500 lbs and am going to get a heavy duty hitch installed this week. I tow boats and trailers all the time, but none have weighed enough that power brakes were required on the trailer. when I read about this stuff online, I see stuff like breakaway brakes, which I never heard of, etc. It appears that towing CARS is a specialized thing? I would really like to use a dolly, but I have to tow the car backwards, because the rear end of the car needs major repairs. The front end is really good. Can we just lash the steering wheel down and tow this rear wheel drive vehicle with the back tires up on the car dolly? I saw that a person can rent car carriers, but the ones I saw were rated only up to 4000 lbs, and then I would need to get the van wired for power brakes, since the trailer is over 3000 lbs. this is a one time deal - the other towing of this vehicle will be done with the engine and tranny pulled out, to get it painted, another one time deal, but not so darn heavy. thx for advice!
is a Car Restoration shop a good idea? thinking to have a car restoration shop when i finish school ill be ase certified and i have experience working on classic cars i was thinking doing all things like mechanical and body work as well as full restorations . how much will this cost to start .or should i even do this i dont wanna start a business that dont have any customers
What would be a good classic car for me to restore? I'm just started getting interested into car restoration after loving classic cars. I like anything with that sleek look, and possibly a long tail. I am 13 years old (yes 13, that was not a typo) and want to restore a car. Yes i know how much work it is and i don't want anyone commenting on my age. I was wondering where i can get either a book or good resorce about car restoration knowledge for the beginner. Also i would love some suggestions on what car you think would be good to get and what condition it should be in when i get it. Thanks for the help. -BK i would love an oldsmobile 442, because it looks great. Actually, any car on the Barrett-Jackson automobile auction look great. The best one i've seen on there was the 1959 de soto adventurer convertable.
Car Restoration Advise? I am in the process of restoring a 1938 Buick. I would like some first hand advise from people who have restored a classic car. Tip, Techniques, etc. Also, please give me recommendations/ Negative comments about various places I may be dealing with in the restoration. Chromers, painters, etc.
Your Preference for Classic Cars: Customization or Restoration? I am somewhat of an amateur auto enthusiast. Right now, I find myself in a pretty good position to purchase a 60s-70s model fixer-upper to either customize or restore... but one primary concern is the car's future value as it relates to my immediate choice of customization/modernization, or total restoration. My personal preference since I will be driving the vehicle often, is customization. I would like to modernize the interior, electrical, A/V system, engine, exterior, etc. I have no problem with restoration, but I just feel like customization/modernization is the best bet for me to be comfortable driving. I have heard professional car customizers/installers say that CUSTOMIZED classic vehicles often do not hold value throughout the years... and often lose value beyond the cost of what was actually put into upgrades... but that factory-condition/RESTORED classic cars DO hold their value. Is this true? What, if any, value loss am I looking at if I customize vs. restore? Just to clarify... I am not doing this to turn around and resell... I am doing it to have a "cool" car to drive around. But, I guess what I worry about, is buying the car for $3,000... putting $5,000 of upgrades into it... but only being able to get $4,000 or $5,000 for the vehicle if I ever DO decide to sell it (because it is custom vs. original condition). I am just trying to guage whether the loss in value due to customization actually exists, and whether or not it is significant enough to impact my decision of taking on this project. :) FYI those numbers I threw out were just guesses... I anticipate spending significantly more the whole way around, but you get what I am trying to say (I hope).
Books about car restoration? I've been wanting to restore a classic car for some time now and I finally have enough money to do so. The only question I have is are there any books or guides out there to help me a little bit?
Rust on Car. Removal/Restoration Instructions? I own a '93 Nissan Sentra Classic car. For the most part the vehichle has been very reliable. My only complaint is the rust. Rust appears mostly along the edges of the frame, above the wheels, door handles, and spots on the door. Compared to the rest of the frame, the rusted regions appear to swell a bit higher bubbling in regions. There is some flaking and in a couple areas there is a crack - one deep the other less so -- but mostly just the swelling effect. My first impression is sanding the areas down then recoating the car with much thicker paint. I went over to Canadian Tires to check for useful products and came across: Rust Check's Rust Converter, and Rust Removal. What are your thoughts on these products in assisting in removing rust, and the steps i should take in cost-effectively removing the rust / restoring the color on my vehicle. I am willing to go the DIY approach, if there's some good books/sites. Thanks! If it makes any difference, the rust spots can be about 5 inches across spanning the length of the frame above the wheel. It has a very coarse, bumpy feel to it.
What website do you recommend to sell a Classic Car? We need to sell a 1940 Buick Special that would be a good restoration project for someone. What website would be the best to list it at that is legitimate, posts pictures, low cost, and remains listed until sold???
this is a question for classic car lovers and maniacs.? ok im 18 years old and was wondering what is the cheapest and easiest classic car to restore? i know minis and vw beetles are quite easy, but im looking for something more "wow". i have like 3 months before uni where im not doing anything, i dont want a major restoration project, just something i can get started on and my dad can finish off. i love american cars and some british, ideas are welcome.
If a neighbor's home foreclosed and they abandoned a classic (junk?) car in their driveway, can I claim it? Ok, so a neighbor foreclosed. Not good news, for them or me. They cleared the home of possessions and the last I've seen of them was two weeks ago. Now there's a sticker on the door. They have a '68 Mercury Cougar sitting on the driveway that never moved in all 7 years I've lived in the neighborhood. Beautiful car that I doubt runs but wondering if it is salvageable as a classic restoration project. I asked the neighbor about it years ago. He said it ran but the wife wouldn't part with it for sentimental reasons. It was her deceased dad's car. Are they ever coming back for it? Has the car been "claimed" somehow as bank property? How do I find out? I'd love to make some lemonade out of my situation and restore this car for myself. Would it be a crime if I had it towed over to my house? This is in North Carolina. Thanks.
howmuch would a car restoration cost? I have a 67 impala 4 door that needs very minor body work and a paint job. I dont want to have it done at a place that will give it a crappy job so I want to bring it to a classic car specialist. The car was also rigged to have a hydraulic hood lifter installed and will want that removed to have it all back to original. I think I will want to do the interior stull myself so basically just the exterior work for the restorers to do unless its a good price to have the interior done to.
Free old car restoration? My dad has a old car that has been sitting up for quite awhile. Its a very old car that has the shifter on the column. Over the years his health and back problems has not made it possible for him to work on it. There have been many offers for this car but my dad does not want to give it up. Is there any kinda of free old car restoration projects that are going on anywhere or anymore? The car is a real classic beauty.
What is the best classic car/hot rod magazine out there? There are several magazines out there on almost every subject. I have become interested in car restorations and hot rod builds, mostly old 60's and 70's classics. I already have one issue of Popular Hotrodding in which the cover article was Build Your First Engine: Save money and wrench it yourself, but it only went so far. I want to learn how to rebuild a car, engine, how to do metal work, paint work, dealing with rust, interior work, ect. Pretty much everything that goes into (re)building a car. Though I know it takes a lot of practice, it's the money that's hindering me from getting my hands dirty. So as long as I can read up on some literature and get a good idea in my mind of what to do and how to do it I'll be a happy camper. If any one has any other suggestions on how to get into the hobby, despite I don't have a car to rebuild, please let me know. I'm open to almost anything right now. PS: Maybe motorcycles would be a better place to start if money was such an issue?
is it bad to keep the clutch pedal depressed? my friend does classic car restoration for a living and he says that on the old jags that he works on, if the driver was to keep the clutch pressed for too long it would wear out the throw out bearings faster and damage the washers on the crankshaft. is this also true for modern cars? like if i was sitting at a red light and kept the car in gear with the clutch pressed, does that harm the car in any way?
Restoration? Restoring a classic car has been a dream of mine since I was a child. I'm about to go off to college so I thought that restoring my dream car would have to wait. Well, my mother told me today that she's letting me keep my car there (one I find one) and when I come home on breaks I'll be able to work on it. I'm going to school several states away so bringing the car up there with me just isn't realistic. I'm pretty new to all of this so any tips on finding and restoring a car would be greatly appreciated. I'm very eager and excited to learn. I'm definitely not in a rush. I was planning on working on it little by little when I'm able to come home from school during breaks and then however long after it'll take.
How much to repaint a classic car? Okay, so I just purchased a 1947 chevy fleetmaster, and it's in pretty good condition. The interior needs a little work, but it's nothing I can't handle. Anyway, I was just shopping around for the cost of painting this kind of car, and can't seem to find anything online. I'm planning on doing a lot of the prep work on my own (I'll spend more time on it than the shop probably would...), and right now it is a maroon color, but I want to paint it black. I know, i know... "Black shows all of the dents". Right now, there is a small dent on the back fender. I was just hoping to get some input on how much a good quality paint job will cost me. I know, I won't go to Maaco (I'm thinking of going to a local but reputable custom body shop here in Portland, OR) And I'm thinking of spending around $7,500... Is that a fair estimate? I'm just looking for some input from someone who either has a classic car, works on them, or knows a lot about restoration (So please don't suggest Maaco...) Thanks!!! -V whoops, your right. hehe there is no such thing as a back fender :P Anyway, did I not make myself clear? Were you somehow confused about what I was saying? I think not.
I've always wanted to restore a classic car... but how? I love the classic muscle cars (60's and 70's camero's, chevelle's etc...) and I've always wanted to buy one of these cars and restore it myself on weekends. Only problem - I'm not very mechanically inclined. I mean, I've done minor things myself like oil changes and tire rotations, but noting huge like restoration. First question - what is a good "starter" car to get my feet wet and isn't too expensive to restore, and is somewhat easy to work on. Second question - what websites would you recommend to learn from? I'll be moving in a few months and will have a place to work on a car, so I'd like to purchase one (around 5,000 bucks?) and slowly work on it on weekends... any suggestions on where to start? What cars to consider? Cars to avoid? My wife also thinks I can't do this, so I want to prove her wrong. No rust - thanks. I was thinking about getting a car that at least runs (or close to it.) No hurry to complete project. I was thinking about handing the car down to my son, or have him help me build it as we go, once he's old enough.
Classic car as a first car? Looking to purchase a first car, and hopefully a classic car. WIlling to get hands dirty, and do a fair bit of work myself however I doubt I will be buying a complete restoration. Considering something along the lines of an MGB GT or MG Midget as a first car. Seems that both cars can be bought in a reasonable state for a reasonable price! I have heard of insurance being obtainable at under £1000 for both of these cars, for young drivers if you shop around. Just wondering which would be the better choice, the GT or the Midget? In terms of insurance and reliability which do you think would be the wiser choice?
What is a good starter car for a restoration? Classic Pre-1980's? I'd like to restore a classic car, but I don't know much about the availability of such cars or their parts. For instance, I'm sure there are some classic cars that have parts that are more available than others (maybe the 57 Chevy). I know I'd be hard-up to find parts for a 1937 Bugatti Type 57. I'm just looking to get my feet wet. Any advice is helpful. Thx.
Where can I find online a guide to restoring a classic car? I am looking at a 1972 Chevy Nova for $1,600. As you probably guessed from the price, it needs a lot of work. Well I want to completely restore this Nova from the ground up. And yes, I know that it will take a lot of time, money, effort, and patience to do something like this. But I am very committed to it. Well honestly, I have never restored a car before. So I know hardly anything about what's involved. So can anyone tell me where online I can find a guide on how to, along with everything else included, restore a classic muscle car? And also, where can I find a website or catalog of complete restoration factory parts for a 1972 Chevrolet Nova ONLY? Thank You Very Much! 10 Points to Best Answer!
What Tools do I need to restore a classic car? I am looking to buy a 1960s mustang for my first car but before i can do that i need to figure out what tools i need to fix it on my own. i dont really have any experiance with fixincg cars and i dont really know anyone who does either. i plan on learning as i go and using the mechanic occasionally. i have vere little money but i want to know what tools i would need to make my mustang a daily driver. because the mustang i buy will definantly be under $3000 and probably less i am expecting it to be in need of restoration. if you could help me with these questions that would be great. What tools do i need to restore a classic mustang and how much do they cost? is there a mechanics set i could buy that has all of the parts i need? once i have the tools how will i know what to do and how to fix the car, is there some sort of ultimate classic mustang fixing guide?
Should I demand my Hubby sell his classic car if it's gonna help us get a better one? My Husband owns a 73 Nova SS that needs a lot of restoration work. Needless to say it's a gas guzzler. We also have another car that we use to get around, but now we need another car since we both work. I really like that he is passionate about his classic, but if he got rid of it we could get something better. I dunno what to do! We've already talked about it but it's such a hard decision. Please, help me. Wow, those are all great suggestions. The car needs at least 2G's of body restoration and the inside is a wreck. I personally would love it if he would keep it cus I know I would hate it if he asked me to sell something that means a lot to me. And I definetly don't want him to hate me for it later. I think I am going to ask him to get another job. I don't have anything of value otherwise I would sell my stuff. Thanks so much!
Classic Car interiors ... and the cleaning of said interiors.? I am the proud owner of a 1950 Plymouth Special Deluxe. It STILL RUNS! But sat for 58 years. I hit the interior with a green machine (with resolve stain remover) and used Automotive Febreeze. Didn't work. Still musty. Anyone got tips to SAFELY AND CAREFULLY remove must from a car this old in the first step to complete restoration? Thank you to Everybody in advance.

different types of welding? can someone tell me the difference between mig/tig and any other types of welding as im planning on doing an evening class in this to aid in my classic car restoration project, as garages charge a fortune
What is the best classic muscle car from the 60's-70's to restore? I am looking to restore a classic muscle car here sometime within the next year or two. I was wondering if any of you guys out there had any suggestions as to which car (Chargers, Challengers, Chevelles, Malibus, Roadrunners, Camaros, etcetera) would be best suited for restoration. The criteria I'm looking for: It has to be reasonably priced, yet still have the class and the Detroit Muscle that I'm looking for. Oh, and it has to be easy to get parts for. So far, the best thing I have found are the old Chevrolet Chevelles.
What is the law concerning "Classic" cars and emissions in Colorado? Im doing a frame off restoration on a 64 Impala. Original engine and transmission are gone, New engine and transmission are from a 2002 Camaro Z28. I want to make sure I am following all emission control laws. Although it is a 1964, the engine and transmission are newer. I would have liked to keep the original engine and transmission, However they were already gone when I purchased this car 3 years ago. Your responses are greatly appreciated.
Classic car restore question? How much would it cost to restore this car and make it running good and everything? This is the car I want.. but I don't know much about fixing cars or anything like that: 1967 MGB Convertible, original California black plate car. Runs and drives...it was originally British Racing Green and the trunk and under the bonnet is still the original BRG, making this car a perfect example to restore. The original aluminum hood is still in place and the body is in great condition. The real black leather seats are in good condition (no rips or tears in the leather). A new gas tank, fuel lines and new fuel pump has just been installed. The metal dash is in good condition. Overall it is a very solid car. These chrome bumper metal dash MGs are getting harder and harder to find and the 1967 is the most desirable model. The engine has plenty of power and sounds great but is a little smoky. This is a running driving restoration candidate...ASKING $4,250.
Help with VAT on UK CAR TRADERS Vehicles...? Heres a scenario... Lets call the firm "Re-Cars" "Re-Cars" are based in the UK and specialise in the restoration of classic cars. The cars are sourced in the UK and a purchased cheaply from a PRIVATE individual, ((where recipts do not show vat)) The company also purchases lots of materials and tools to restore the cars ((recipts show VAT)).. The vehicles sell from the forecourt. The Company sells ALOT of cars, so much so the TURNOVER is in excess of £150,000 per year, so the company is forced in to bieng VAT Registered.. Hurray... Now the tricky bit... Because the company is VAT Registered.. Do the Cars Sales invoices have to show the VAT?
1966 Jaguar S type restoration and integration? i'm not looking for a text book restoration. i want to take this beautiful classic car and modernize it. update the ammenities and technology while keeping the integrity of the design. i want to give it a new effecient engine and transmission and also incorporate a digital interface to monitor liquid pressures, temperatures, levels, diagnostics and also estimates of EPA, fuel consumption, SatNav, CC etc [just normal everyday luxuries on our cars]. So does anyone know of any good information sources or businesses with experience in this kind of restoration?

Should I continue my restoration of 1987 BMW 535is or sell it off? Hello fellow motorists...I did a complete exterior restoration on my 87 535is and with the exception of a couple minor imperfections the thing is mint and garaged/out of the elements. It needs about $500 to become roadworthy again but I am debating whether or not to sell it and keep the proceeds. It has a great deal of sentimental value to me and I have put quite a bit of cash into it. Also it'll be a classic car soon...I am looking to do a Leatherique interior restoration and replace fading/tarnished chrome, it looks good as it is though. Any fellow E28 drivers have suggestions? Is it worth keeping as a potential "play-car" for the future (I already own another vehicle for daily use) or do you think I'd be better off just selling the auto? Thx!
Husband KNOWS I need the car to take kids to Dr. appointments, yet he's out there taking it apart? He has the front fenders, hood and windshield out (it's a classic car in process of restoration) and he expects me to drive it around with the ENTIRE FRONT END missing. God I'm so f*cking disgusted with him right now I could SCREAM!! and he doesn't understand what my problem is. He wouldn't drive a disassembled car so wtf should I??? It's not my fault my standards are higher than his. @ Janet- it IS my car so why don't YOU stop acting like a presumptuous know-it all? @ what are you: it's my name on the title and registration- so try LEARNING about the situation before you make snippy little comments.
How do i get a classic top-back impala elongated? I am going to get a junk 1964 Chevrolet Impala to get it restored and completely customized. The trickiest part that i don't understand how i'm supposed to go about doing is making the car about 6-8 inches longer. What makes it more complicated is that it will be a top-back so it not as simple as splitting the car in half and welding extra metal on it but they would have to even make the soft top longer so it can fit. The purpose of all this is to make more room for the back seat passengers. Taking the car to a restoration shop is one thing, but who/where do i go to get the car longer???
Info on a small version of a 1957 Chevy Bel Air? I once lived in a small town and there was a car that looked just like a 1957 Chevy Bel Air but MUCH smaller. I now own a classic car restoration shop and have asked many people about this car. I have had one person tell me it is called the "phantom" 57 and it's origin is unknown. This person claims there are only three or four in existence. I recently went back to this small town only to find the car and the owner no longer reside there. Has anyone ever seen or heard of such a car? If so I would be interested in the history of it as well. Thanks in advance to any plausible answers I get. There is "such a thing" as I have seen one with my own eyes. I am not saying GM made it, I am just saying it exists and I want to know what it is, a kit car, a proto-type or what. I searched for Vauxhall classics, nothing there. This car looked EXACTLY like a 57 bel air with the silver inset on the rear fenders and everything. It was just smaller in every aspect, height, width, and length. This may have been a one-off custom. I truly don't know, just thought I would throw the question out there. At the time, I just never asked the owner about it and when I went back to look at the car and talk with the owner both were gone.
Why the incandescent light bulb ban eliminates them entirely? I have to on occasion work with trouble lights on automobiles or in crawl spaces in attics or under house. Bulb breakage is imminent and much expected. The blame is as much the hazardous placement as well as the techniques and situation. The work involves constant banging around jacking, not to mention the tools or materials usually damage or even break a bulb. For instance on a recent classic car restoration project I shattered at least twenty bulbs in a five month period. That is pretty normal for crawling around under a car. Considering the amount of mercury in the new CFL light bulb I would have turned my basement into an EPA hazardous waste zone. Thankfully I was aware of the mercury and had better sense. Still, why would my own government not easily think of this and force me to poison myself with a new law. Surely they thought this thing through better than that. bob
What is the easiest classic muscle/pony car to restore? I want to start my first restoration project, but I don't have a lot of experience or money. I think I can commit about $15-18K over the next few years to a car but I don't know what a smart choice would be. I love 68 fastback mustangs, 69 camaros, 68-70 challengers, novas, etc. Anything with a little muscle and style. Any recommendations on a good first project car? I'm not looking to show this car and win awards. I don't have 50,000 to put into it. I just want to build something I can afford and feel proud of putting together. I don't know what cars are easiest to find parts for, or which cars are notorious for anything. Any help would be HUGE! Thanks all!

Restoring a classic or buying a new car? I found a 1969 Z28 camaro I want to buy. The body is straight with a few little dings but needs paint. Interior needs complete restoration. 302 V8 engine runs and is complete. 4speed transmission and rear end also work but are old. I want to rebuild this car and keep it maybe give it to my son when he's older. My wife dosent understand this find, she thinks I should buy a new car. The price is right and I think it's a good investment. Does any one know how hard it might be to find parts for a car like this?
Has anyone ever bought anything from Yearone? I am looking at restoring my classic car so I called year one. They told me because my car is a Sedan they don't have any parts for it. Anyone know any good restoration sites that might have parts for a 67 Impala Sedan?
Becoming a mechanic, restoration, as a woman...? I'm a woman who is obsessed with all classic cars. If it's before 1980, I want to learn about who made it, when they made it, what it has in it, what it looked like on the showroom floor...everything. I have a grandfather who was a mechanic for 35 years. And I'm still in the world trying to figure out where I fit. I love working with my hands and getting dirty. I love watching projects come together piece by piece. I want to learn how to restore and maintain classic cars. I don't want to be an everyday Meinike worker. Getting into this business as a woman is still difficult, and my grandfather was always against any of us doing what he did for a living (bad conditions, no education, etc etc), so no support/advice on that end. Would it be worth it? I don't care about money-wise, I have a husband that makes enough to support us both, who supports whatever path I decide to take. All I'm wondering, as someone who has never personally owned or restored their own classic, is it a reasonable pursuit as a career?
Im looking at buying a car in TX that hasnt been registered in over 24 years, the car was.....................? (from what I was told) found abandoned, picked up by a tow truck driver and now someone is selling it (who I talked to). It has TX plates which shows last registration in '86. I can almost guarentee by the condition of the car that it hasnt driven since then. It is a classic that needs complete restoration but is definately worth the asking price and any registration complications that go with it. How do I begin the registration process for an abandoned / lost reg vehicle? I am asking you people before I buy! Thanks.
32 and never dated, is it to late? Hi everyone. I've been really really depressed lately. I'm 32 now and I have this problem called never having a girlfriend and still being a virgin and loosing every friend I ever thought I had as a result of it. I feel so jelous and pissed off every time I go out and see young couples smooching and holding hands! Or yet some high school punk in his beat up honda with a coffee can muffler cruising around with some hot girl! I just want to yank his *** up and beat the **** out of him and say what makes you better then me! I know that's the wrong additude to have but 20 years of being told that your not good looking enough to be boyfriend material has broken my give a damm!!!! From middle school thru high school to co workers, to friends, friends of friends, to blind dates to online dating so on and so forth for over the past 15 years I always got the same rejection over my looks. I've always thrived to be a good person and treat others as I would like to be treated. I've always offered my complete and total friendship to anyone that needs or wants it, and it has all back fired on me. I can't get thru a day without wondering how my life would be today if I had meet someone 10 or 15 years ago. And I can't lay to rest thoughts of the good times and sweet memories I should have of my youth with someone special that isn't there but only the memories of how I was always told I wasn't cute, good looking, or attractive enough! But every pretty boy Tom Dick and Harry treated them like **** and they loved them just because they was pretty boys!!!! It's hard for me to even look at the guy in the mirror every morning knowing that I've never even been accepted to go on one single date, never been kissed, never had a warm hug and hearing words like I love you. NOTHING! The differance from me and people that wants to kill themselves is that most people have to try to think of ligit reasons to do it. I have to try and think of one reason not to. People I used to consider friends have nothing to do with me anymore because of this and how I don't get ***** everyday like they do. I've been called every name in the book and a new book started. Gay, queer, even pedofile because I've always had a warm spot for kids and used to dream of the day I became a father and the fact that I've never had a women in my life people judged me totaly wrong. Two summers ago I was living in Nashville Tn where I was training to be a railroad engineer. At the same time I was working on one of my car restorations of a 1987 Trans Am. I had just got the paint and graphic work done and was going to drive it back to my home town of Kingsport to let everyone see it. I called up Brian and Mike that was old high school friends and told them I was comming in. They made plans to meet me at circuit city. They made big jokes of my black and gold TA with the big eagle on the hood and ask who are you suposed to be Burt Reynolds? I just laughed about that but I didn't know they had set me up to get me in the store and away from my car so they could have there way with it. They knew how much time, work, and money I had in this thing and what it ment to me and the paint job wasn't a week old. They took red spray paint and painted the words *** boy, queer, and painted a big dick over the bird on the hood. They recorded the whole time on cam making slurs about me and what a looser I am being a virgin and never had a GF! When I came out and seen my car I feel to my knees and threw up right there in the parking lot, I was so weak at the knees I could not stand! I've since lost all faith in people and the future. I feel I'm already dead it's just my body still walks around empty with no sole. Just to answer some questions, I'm not fat I still weigh 147 as I did when I graduated high school. I've always been active and come from a slinder family. I'm 5 foot 10 blue eyes and light brownish hair kinda like Tom Cruise's style. As for ways I've tryed to be the cool cat thru the years, I studied music, voice and guitar thru my early teens and was lead guitarist in a rock band in high school. Took 4 years auto machanics and got into restoring classic muscle cars all thru my 20s as I still some what do. I built a 1972 plymouth duster that I used to drag race and won placks and trophies with before it was stolen in spring 2004 and found striped out 3 months latter in Virgina. Total loss there. I've since went back to college and am now an engineer for CSX railroad. Would you say my window of opportunity has long since shut at this point of my life???? And could someone please tell me where I went wrong and what I have done to deserve this???? Just if you wanna see some pics. http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=170902874&albumId=407995 There is more pics in my photobucket just look for T_TopBandit, you can also IM me on yahoo messanger at T_TopBandit.
Is it worth restoring my 1990 Dodge Daytona? My 1990 Dodge Daytona needs engine work, the interior's headliner is coming down, and the lock mechanism in the driver side door is faulty. To fix it up I'm guessing is going to take at least $2,000, probably more. That's way more than the value of the car right now. I love the car, would love to see it fixed up, would hate to come to a day where I regretted giving it up. I know nothing of car restoration and a car's value over time. It's hard to imagine the car as one day being a classic, but I could be wrong. Is it worth it?

Advertising expenses? I am in the process of starting a service business and I have a question about writing off advertising expenses. We want to use a classic car to promote our business. I have found one and it needs some work. Would we be able to write off all, or a portion of the restoration costs since we are going to use it as a marketing tool?
