Can I get a free car out of this deal? I sold my 1984 Porsche 944 back in early winter to a kid that lives in St Paul, MN for cash. I signed the title over to him and we went our seperate ways. HOWEVER, today I got a letter from the St. Paul Police dept or w/e saying that my car has been towed and that I have 15 days until it can be auctioned off from the impound lot. Appearantly the kid never put the car in his name, and it still has my old plates and tags. The letter explains that I must show up and prove my identity (the one that the letter says the car is owned by) to get the car. Now I understand that there may be a tow charge and some other small fees or parking tickets to pay for, but... If I took care of it would it be mine again? I pay for everything and pick it up. What if I wait until the last day before it can be sold, then the kid obviously didn't have any intention of getting it back and might not even know that I was able to get it. He may just think that it was sold... Any thoughts or advice? If you have reputable experience to back up anything please let me know so that I can be sure, if not any thoughts are welcome :D The charge listed on the letter says $160 for the charge of the tow, and a $45 charge. And I have no way of contacting the kid as I dont have his number or email address anymore. And it doesn't help that I was cleaning the other day and found a spare key which I threw away...

Why don't the police shut down most new car dealers? My grandfather took his Buick in for a service, it is four years old, stays in a full garage, and has only 8 thousand miles on it. Granddad is 87 and a former pilot for the Navy. Recently he called me and was confused, he lost his car! I came over and there was a new sports car in his garage, 6 miles on it, and the paper plate had His Name on it! He sat down and said now he remembers a nice guy pushing this car on him, and he thought he was only taking it home so they could change all the tires on his car, and he would come back the next day and pick up his car. Come to find out when he went in for the free oil change, they convinced him all his tires were no good from lack of use, and charged him $800 for tires ! Then an hour later, swindled him into signing for the new sports car, and took away his still new smelling 4 year old car! Then I get a call from his trust officer telling me they had transferred $42.000 out of his account to the dealers based on a signed per chase order! OMG!!!!!!!!!! I called the dealer and after being given the run around, was told he wanted the trade! And it was all his idea, and the trade in had been sent to auction and sold! And he was free to as he wished, and the deal was final! I called G.M. The BBB My lawyer, and my son in law is the Chief of Police out of state, and he told me the license to sell cars is a license to conduct organized crime! Because you see the big factory sign on the lot ( GM) and think you are dealing with GM, but in fact, all car dealers are hiding behind that, and are slimy local fast buck con men with a 100 different tricks to screw you when you sit down to buy a car. In my case I was about to faint because of the stress, I called the T.V. Station and was told this dealer was a HUGE advertisement account, and they were not about to take the lead going after him. No One was willing to help! Only after I told my lawyer to unchain his dogs on this bastard, and as soon as the demand letter/advice of imminent legal filing and then a "Hippie" type free newspaper made this the front page news story, did they suddenly have a teenage looking secretary drive dads car over and ask for the keys to the sunfire (we looked high and low for the keys! Gave up and then the tow truck driver saw them in the ignition) she gave. Full refund, less the $800 for replacing new tires with new tires! OMG why are dealers, who pay BIG money into the BBB as "members-board members-advisors" control the media with fat checks for endless ads, and make token charity donations so they can have a wall full of goodwill letters... Why are they not exposed for what they are! I don"t know what the two seat sports car is called, It was tiny and with built in roll bars. It had been in the showroom for a long time as a traffic getter I'm told. It had extended warranty to 100.000 miles and all kinds of options added to the side of the window, even the wheels were add on. Yes, most people know NOT to take advantage of elderly people, my mother died and pop's has had strangers help him many times when he did things like left his Wallet on the counter of starbucks, went to sleep with the front door of the house open, and once a lady we never met drove him to the vet doctor and waited for him, and drove him back home when his 18 year old dog got sick and I was on a cruise. Impound for forgotten ticket=susp lic, had resolved w/ police dept, etc, bank refuses to give car to owner now A ticket was mistakenly not paid, car was impounded in Los Angeles. Son took care of all issues regarding an abstract and license renewal, was waiting for the DMV to receive abstract for a total of 11 impound days. On day 12, son went to Police Dept to obtain release from the impound and was informed the financier, Wachovia Bank, had arrived an hour beforehand and took vehicle. All payments on loan are current and insurance and registration free and clear. Bank would not return calls for 5 days or any information or how to obtain the car. After many calls, finally was told the bank would not release car, and would be selling it off at auction due to the impound. Would not give any possibility of paying them the tow fees back or even discuss other than their "impound is why we are taking the car." Were told by the bank legal department that the vehicle had been there over 30 days... clearly mistaken information. Have any idea what direction to head? CANNOT EVEN WORK W/O A CAR !

Can you stop a mechanic's lien against a car and how do you do so.? My son-in law took his car into a repair shop to see what was wrong with his transmission. The shop advertised a free diagnosis and my son-in law asked just to make sure first. They initially told him it would cost around around $800 to repair, at first sight but said they needed to pull out the transmission for a better look.......... he then asked would the diagnosis work still be free and they said yes. After that they looked at the car and said it would cost about $1900 to fix, he then told them he couldn't afford that not to do any work on it and he'd pick it up. He was prepared to pay the $800 but not $1900. The shop told him okay but he had to first pay for taking out the transmission..........which would be about $400. He explained that they advertised a free diagnosis and that he asked them about that prior to them looking at it. He would have even paid to have it looked at if it had been a reasonable amount. He called them again and they claimed that they had started to work on it so now he would have to pay the $1900. My son-in law has tried everything he contacted Consumer affairs, the BBB, but the shop submitted falsified paperwork. They copied and pasted his signature on a false estimate that even contradicts them, using his signature written for the free diagnosis. Which he can prove is false once he gets to court. He has gone to the police who can not help........ and he doesn't have the $1900. He filed a small claims suit which he hasn't got a date for yet. In the meanwhile they filed for a mechanics lien and the time is almost up the car goes to auction in a week. We've looked at review sites for this business and see that there are similar complaints made about them but that doesn't help us now. Any legitimate advice please.

Where can I find good used cars for cheap in auctions or from people? Hi, I'm looking for a used car but I really don't have that much money to spend. I've been all over the internet lately but can't seem to find anything which has caught my eye. Craigslist and Ebay are not yielding any favorable results. I know that there are ceased cars being auctioned off by the police, DEA, etc. Can you tell me where I can find these auctions in my city? I've heard that auctioned vehicles can be a bargain if bought wisely but I can't find any of these auction listings. The ones available are not free either. What should I do about a car I bought and then blew up? On July 28th, at 2:30pm I paid off a 1991 Subaru Legacy from a private seller. (Not a dealer.) They had no title for it because they were waiting for the auction house to give it to them. So a bill of sell was printed out and signed. But about an hour later when my boyfriend was driving the car home it started smoking. He got out and tried to check the hood but it wouldn’t open. Thinking it might be burning oil he decided he would check it when he got home. But about 5 minutes from my house the engine stalled and he had to pull over. He checked the back of the car because it was smoking and the rear axle was on fire. Within 30 seconds the entire car was engulfed in fire. I was a couple minutes behind him and saw that my recently purchased car was totaled. I called the people who sold me the car and they said they would not give me my money back. So after the police come and fire department put out the fire the towing people tow the car to their lot, since I don't want a burnt car sitting in my yard. So now I am out $1,400 dollars and have a $300 towing bill. What would I do? Is there a lemon law for private sellers? The car didn't have insurance on it. Was going to put it on as soon as the car got into the parking lot. The car's rear axle was 'supposedly' fixed by Firestone and now they are doing a claim/investigation. The bill of sale had the car is being sold as is, so not sure if I'm completely out of luck. Any other questions feel free to ask! I was told the title was at the auction house. Don't even know if that part is true. It shouldn't take a month for them to get the title.

Was this cop being a Bully for no reason? Why are cops like this? Over the Last few days, Here in atlanta, we have had a major Ice storm, and my home internet in my apartment was knocked out. I had a listing on Ebay that was going to end on Sunday night, so I drove down to the club house in my apartment complex around 5am to check the status of the auction. I Just threw on some sweat pants and T shirt before I left my apartment. Well I pulled up, and because it was raining Ice. I parked close to the clubhouse, in a employee parking space, It was truly an accident. Well i went into the computer lounge, and 5 minutes later this cop walks in, and asks me if thats my black bmw outside. I said yes., he makes me walk outside, where 3 other cops are. They ask me for my ID. I told them I live in the neighborhood, and I just drove down to check my email. The cop says " You drive a new BMW, and you don't get emails on your phone"? Do you have any proof that you live here"? I said , " First and Foremost, Its not part of your job to analyze a person's electronic capabilities, secondly yes my car has a apartment complex sticker on the windsheild". So he walked over and looked at it, came back, and asked why I didn't have any ID. I said I would take them up to my apartment and show them my wallet if they liked. They told me to stay put, and they walked into another area of the parking lot, talking. I was standing outside waiting on them for 30 minutes in a 10 degree Ice storm. Then they walk back over and say, " Ok sir, your free to go, have a nice day," As I walked away, they were giggling. Well, The next day, I woke up sick out of my mind. I'm still really sick. I went to the doctor and was told I have strep throat. The doctor immedately asked me if I had been out in the cold recently. Should I call the Police about this incident? I'm really sick, and thinking back on all, I feel like the police were not acting very professional.

Is it possible to beat the repo man? I havent made a payment since July 2009. The "bank" has gone to court and been issued a Writ of Possession. They havent shown up to my house yet. I hear that they'll come with the police and repo guy. I plan to hide out in the house and not answer my door. The longer I string them along/stall for time, the longer I go judgement free. I figure if they get the vehicle back sooner, they'll sue me that much sooner and start garnishing my wages. Seems to be to my advantage to string this out as long as possible. What happens if they never recover the vehicle? (its in Mexico) Why would I surrender the vehicle? so they can auction it off for pennies on the dollar, then sue me for the balance? ohhhhhh, and garnish my wages. forget that, I'll part this sucker out and give it back on blocks, lol "Also, if the creditor doesn't receive the vehicle back after going through the court ordered Replevin, then the creditor might include the term 'P&L write off' or 'Subscriber cannot find' in with their regular negative reporting of the account on your credit reports, which is far worse than just having a repo or a repo and a judgment on your reports." I plan to go chapter 7 BK and wipe everything out Is it possible to beat the repo man? I'd have to say yes. I've beat the repo man like a "yard dog" for the last 2 years, lol. Even if they sue me and get a judgment for the full balance of the loan, plus repo charges, they'll never recover the vehicle and I'll declare chapter 7 bankruptcy and wipe out their judgment. I think its funny as hell to see "The Bank" continue to switch repo companies. They've burned through 3 different companies in the last 2 years. I think its funny to confuse their "skip tracing" software, by registering my credit cards to a relatives house 2,000 miles away. Also, turing on utilities for a buddy who is attending college out of state confuses them as well. The more time they waste with me, is one more day someone else more deserving gets to keep their car, because the repo guy is spinning his wheels with me. I cant wait until he shows up with the cops. I will come out, get really really really mad, tell them the vehicle "ain't here" so "get lost." I will also trespass the repo guy in the presence of the officer, and is he returns, it will be considered "disturbing the peace" which is a big No No in the repo world. Why do I get unwanted emails in my Yahoo account that are for future days and future years, are they viruses? I sent an email a few weeks ago and did not get a response. Please help.
