Is salvage title okay to buy and fix? The airbags are gone!!!? I was planning to buy a salvage car at an online auction and the only problem from what I see in the pictures is that the airbags are gone because of being stolen. My dad said salvage title is not good to buy, but I really want it. I'm just afraid of buying it because you get what you see so I can't examine anything else until I buy it. I'd really like to get some feedback especially if anyone's a mechanic and knows how much it would cost to get the driver's and passenger's airbags put into a car that's a 2005 honda pilot.

Salvage Cars? Do i need to be a dealer to resell my salvage car in a online auction call copart ??
Are there any online car shops that will buy a brand new ECM? I was having problems with the alternator of my 2001 Mazda MPV this year. My mechanic forwarded me to an electronic specialist who told me that I needed a new computer for my car. I bought the computer, but it turned out that my mechanic was installing the wrong alternator in my car. Mazda will not accept returns on electrical parts, the electronic specialist won't buy back the computer, my mechanic can't find anyone to buy it, I've tried selling it on Ebay and other online auction places, and I've been to Salvage yards who won't take it either. I can't find places online that will buy it, so I'm hoping that there is a dealer or shop out on the internet that will buy it.

Help with Salvage title.? Good morning, Thanks for taking the time out to help me with a question I have about a Salvage title that needs to be Rebuild in Illinois. Hears the situation I'm a Auto body tech hear in Chicago Me & My Cousin opened up a Body shop / Dealer in Illinois, but our license is based out of Indiana, where we are listed legally and recognized by the State of Indiana. Which is perfectly fine from my understanding. Hear is my problem a Customer had contacted me about a SUV he bought at a Online Auction a 2008 Honda Pilot EX that was declared by the state of California as Salvage. The Honda was smashed in the front-end thus making the Title as Salvage, Once the Honda was received by my Customer I went over there and quoted him a price on the actual repair of the Honda, He then asked if I could rebuild the title in order to have the Honda, registered, plated, and cleared of the Salvage title status I said yes, I made the decision based on previous experiences I had. We agreed on the terms and with an advancement (check to buy parts) the Honda and Title in hand, I went ahead and repaired all the work needed to be done. Hear is the actual problem the Honda was sold to the auction, from the original owner of the Honda so it was signed over to the auction. then for whatever reason the auction signed it over to a auction agent, ( who works for the same auction World Wide LLC based out of California) then when it was finely sold to my Customer it was then signed over to him. Once me and my partner sat down and had a look at the title we noticed that there would be no room on the back of the title to add our name on it, in order to get it rebuild this way once we received the rebuild title, we could just sign the rebuild title over to him. this way he could get it plated and titled in his name make sense so far ? But since there was no room for our name we decided to contact World Wide to try and get a duplicate or an affidavit for a correction of title in order to proceed. Keep in mind the auction signed over to their agent then to my Customer. from my understanding a Consumer in Illinois can not buy a salvage titled car only Dealers / Body shops. I don't know if California has the same law but for whatever reason they did knowing he lives in Illinois. So we called over there and spoke to a rep we stated our case and she said, We can't send you out a duplicate because the car wasn't plated but we can send you an affidavit, stating we (the auction) signed it over to our agent then the agent sold it to the customer or if I told her that would be a problem hear in Illinois because only a Shop or Dealer can buy Salvage cars She said that's not the case in California. I asked her if we can get an affidavit from them She said yes but we need all of Ur business info such as name, address, number, which with those three we didn't have a problem but then she said we need Ur business license number as well as Ur Federal tax id number WTH? why would they need all of that info from my understanding it is unlawful to disclose any of Ur personal business info due to fraud. so I wanted to research there company before I gave then our personal info and there not even listed as an auction there listed as a car dealer therefore I don't trust them with my business info with all my info they could use it for a lot of things and I don't want to take that chance! I thought I can go around it by trying to go over to the Secretary of State Indiana where a salvaged titled car can be bought by a Consumer and just get it rebuild and titled through them but my Customer don't want the car titled or plated in Indiana he wants it registered in Illinois and that might be a problem right ? although my shop is located in Chicago by dealers license is based out of Indiana not in Illinois I don't think I can obtain anything from Illinois Secretary of Sate And I really think if I don't get it titled and plated he wont pay the dues that remain un paid how can I protect myself and what the hell can I do about this how do I go about fixing this problem if someone can shine some light on this dark situation I would highly appreciate it and please be as blunt as possible thank you so much for Reading this and taking the time out to help me out God bless have a blessed day

Can I claim a new car computer on my taxes? I was having problems with my alternator this year. My mechanic forwarded me to an electronic specialist who told me that I needed a new computer for my car. I bought the computer, but it turned out that my mechanic was installing the wrong alternator in my car. Mazda will not accept returns on electrical parts, the electronic specialist won't buy computer, my mechanic can't find anyone to buy it, I've tried selling it on Ebay and other online auction places, and I've been to Salvage yards who won't take it either. Can I claim this as a lost on my taxes? Or doesn't anyone know of a place out there that will buy this back?
How to work with Insurance Company regarding ACV and salvage buy back? Here is my situation: I recently crashed my 2003 350z and my insurance company just deemed it a total loss. My original plan was to accept the total loss and buy back the car to repair it myself and get a salvage(rebuilt) title. Today, I received a call from my claim rep with Progressive Ins with the numbers regarding the accident. Here are the numbers in approximation as I'm awaiting a breakdown via email. Car Value(tax, registration, etc):$12,400 Deductible:$1,000 Lien Payoff:$8,250 Settlement amount(check to me):$3,170 I requested to purchase the car back to repair myself, and my agent advised: I would need to first pay down my lien by about $2,250. Once the payment posted, they would then complete the payoff of the lien and I would be able to get my car back. So, basically, they are wanting over $5,000 for me to purchase this car back, which is over 40% of the car's value. I feel this number is a little high and originally expected to be able to at least have the lien and deductible paid, and just receive the car back with little or no cash in addition to the car. After hearing this information, I became frustrated and let the rep know that I would need to think about how I wanted to continue. After doing some research online, I was able to locate where the car was(never advised). The car was towed directly to an Insurance Auction company in Phoenix, AZ. While looking for information regarding this company, I was actually able to locate my car on their web site ready for auction with a start date of TBD, awaiting certificate. This was posted on their site yesterday, a day before I received any information regarding my claim. As mentioned, this was declared a total loss and I was able to obtain the repair summary, and every part listed on their paperwork was highly overpriced based off my part research. Their web site also stated that the car did not start, but since the accident on last Thursday, 03/15/2012 and every single day following, I started the car and it started without a hitch, even on Monday, when I left the key in the car for the tow company to get the car. The car also has a lot of aftermarket(performance) parts installed on the vehicle. So, how would I find out if the value of the car included these parts in there figures? If it wasn't figured into the pricing, or the payout amount for the premium parts is not very much, I can opt to remove and replace these parts with stock or acceptable parts. For instance, I have a cold air intake, full adjustable coil over suspension with camber kits, (4) Work Wheels and Nitto Invo tires, full cat-back single exit exhaust, and premium sound system. Obviously, if these were not figured in to the pricing, how would I go about adding these, or would it be better to just remove and replace these with stock or acceptable replacements? Is there anyway to get the buy back price down? Or if that is not an option, would my additional GAP coverage work in paying the $2,200 to the lien holder so I could buy back the vehicle within the limits of their settlement offer? Regarding the starting of the vehicle, like I mentioned, it was fired up everyday until it was towed, and now it states that it doesn't start? How would one go about investigating this? Is it worth it to try and hire a third party appraiser and/or mechanic to price out the repair and the worth of the vehicle in it's current state with all the parts? I understand the reasoning behind totaling the car, but I don't quite understand their valuing of the car, and the amount they want me to pay to buy back the vehicle? How should I move forward, who should I contact, and what would be the best plan of action in this situation? I'm thinking that removing the aftermarket parts and replacing them with oem or acceptable replacements would be the first step, as I would make more money on selling the parts private party than having them remain on the car with the current values. I'm very stressed out and I'm really unsure on how to move forward with my Insurance company. I understand that they are trying to pay out as little as possible, but it's my insurance company who claim to be on my side. The value of the car they provided would be acceptable with the car was bone stock, but it's not. Can anyone please help me with this situation? It would be greatly appreciated and any advice would help greatly! I should also note that I also had a total loss last year with the same Insurance company and it was handled very differently. The car was taken to an actual reputable body shop for the appraisal, and the value of the car was higher than blue book and also had aftermarket parts. This was an 2006 Ford Focus ST (SAP) with 73,000 miles. They even offered the buy back option at 20% of the ACV, and with my current 03 350Z, they want over 40% of the ACV for the buy back. PLEASE HELP Thanks!
What Should I Do If Bank Won't Lower Auto Payoff Amount? I have a odd scenario and need a little advice. With the tough economic times, I have fallen behind on my car note over the last 5-8months. The financed vehicle is in storage, therefore eliminating any chances of repossession. My purchase amount of the car was $28,900. A year and a half later, Capital One says the payoff amount today is $28,700, even though I've made $7000 in payments over the past year. I posted the car online, and someone wants to buy the vehicle for $25,000 cash. The issue is that Capital One, won't budge, and stated that they do not negotiate payoff amounts, even if the net value of the possible car purchase price + the amounts I've paid already, is higher than the original purchase price from the previous lien holder. I also don't have $4000 to pay the balance in full. Capital One collectors pretty much told me that they do not negotiate. My question is that either way, I'm going to be screwed. If I allow them to repo the car, it's still going to go on my credit as a repossession for 7 years. If I default on the loan, it still goes on my credit. I understand Capital One has set terms and expectations, but the car isn't worth $25,000, more like $21,000, but the potential buyer simply loves the rare color combination. If they repo the car, they wont' get the value that my buyer is willing to pay at a repo auction. I've really debated on taking the car to a salvage yard and let them strip the car for whatever I can get, then report the car as stolen, but that's really not in my character. I know it's not the most ethical thing to do at the time, but right now, I just can't let the "big bank" to get the car back, keep the money I've already paid, hold me responsible for the balance, then sell the car from even more profit. I would just rather deal with the default on my credit report for the next 7 years. I already own my home, and my fiance has A+ credit, therefore credit purchases isn't a big deal. At the end of the day, Capital One will lose along with me, so I'm not sure why they won't budge. Has anyone ever heard of any bank lowering the payoff amount to at least get their investment back? What should I do? Also, I understand salvaging the car would be more illegal and not really unethical, but that's not the point, and that's not a real option for me anyways. My question is what's the best way to handle the situation based off the circumstances. To the user that asked the question, yes, banks definitely lower payoff amounts all the time with short sales on homes. They know that the house isn't worth the amount owed, therefore they take the most reasonable rate that they can get from a potential buyer, just to avoid the foreclosure procedure. Any person should know this based off the current housing market. Yes. I did not renew my insurance, which ended in July 2011. My monthly payment was $100 a month via Geico, nothing insanely overpriced. I was only using the housing comparison since a user used that example as if banks didn't adjust prices for short sales. Not sure why an auto loan would be any different than any other kind of loan, which typically doesn't put a lien on your house. If you don't pay a student loan or a credit card bill, they don't put a lien on your home. If you go via the collections process, and make scheduled payments, wouldn't it be just the same as resolving a debt, with no liens placed? And yes, I agree, no salvage company wouldn't take a car with no title, and again, this was just a hypothetical question. However, there are plenty of people/places that would be happy to take and strip the car with no questions, whether I was the owner or not. But what happens if the car was wrecked, or greatly damaged beyond repair, it's technically the same premise. N
Copart or Ridesafely. Which one is reliable? I want to buy a salvaged vehicle at a discount price so im going to use an online auction. Ridesafely.com is free to make an account but i never really heard of it before. Copart seems more legit as it is well known. There is a registration fee for copart but i rather pay a little cash and get my car instead of getting ripped off from ridesafely. I have seen the exact same car on both sites but ridesafely's "current bid" was thousands of dollars higher than Copart's was. After the auction was over i checked out the "virtual sale replay" feature on copart to see that the vehicle sold for $2800 in california. Its odd because the exact same car sold for $4300 on Ridesafely. Did someone getting ripped off? All i want to know is what auction site is more safe. So far im thinking copart is the way to go.

Infiniti G35 07' - Good Deal? Help!? I am close to closing on a 07' G35 with 45K miles. The car is listed as $22,999. The process was going smoothly until I asked for the CarFax Report that revealed the personal owner was in an accident. It was reported that she hit another car. (front right passenger: bumper, light and side stated the salesperson) the report states it is extensive damage...salvage..may have an effect on operation...may not. This was a big concern but the salesperson states that the car did not suffer any internal damage it was all cosmetic, and it could not be auctioned and brought to the lot until it passed inspection and could not be certified. I'm paying for certification to get an extended warranty and a lower interest rate. My questions are: Can a car be certified being in an accident like this? The car was not listed as being certified online? How do I know it was certified before I am paying for it? What important checks(inspections) are done in the certification process? Need some reasurrance. Would you consider this a good buy? Where can I find a reputable and knowledgeable mechanic of Infinities to inspect the vehicle?

Salvage Car Crises. Expert Advice Needed? I purchased a car from and a company that exports cars. They purchased the car online at an auction and i went to the auction lot to pick it up. Interestingly the the auction company stated they can only put it in the name of the person who purchased it ( export company) and have me on it as the agent. Now i am trying to register the car in my name and i am being told by DMV to obtain a bond title? How can i get the car registered in my name? Trying to get it registered in Arizona...Only thing is this company is located in another country. Hail damage..barely visible. It passed the emissions test. I know i need the a Level 3 inspection. However...unsure how to proceed with the title itself since it has Export company as the owner
