Should I file a car insurance claim for a flat tire with 2 rims and bumper panel damage for $2000 (Geico)?
My wife got a flat tire, hit something she does not know what. Won't the insurance premium go up more than $2000 over the long run and thus will be more expensive? Louisiana Geico Policy I can afford to pay for it now, if it saves me money in the long run.

- There are variables to consider and weigh. Can you afford two used rims? Did you need tires anyway? Does the bumper damage affect the operation of the car? Is the damage ugly? Best bet is to not file, but if you don't have the means to repair needed damage, then file :)
- yes
- I get a kick out of how many people refuse to use their insurance because they fear their rates will go up. Why bother getting the optional coverages if you are not going to use them in times like this? $2k is an awful lot of money to pay out of pocket. Use your insurance. That is why you have it. Your rates may go up, but I doubt they will increase by $2k! Also, your policy may have "first accident forgiveness" on it. Ask your agent. Also, if your wife has not had any priors and has a previously good driving record, that will be considered upon renewal.
