Modify a car for overseas?

I just bought a brand new 2007 honda civic. If i moved to somewhere, lets say japan, would I have to get my car modified for their standards? Like for emissions or the windshield or anything. Not just japan though I want to know if I would need to do this for any country. Thanks for the help!

  1. More than likely. Cheaper to sell yours here and buy another one in whichever country you move to becuase it also costs a bundle to transport it overseas.
  2. All I can say is that I lived in Germany for a little while (military). I didn't have to get anything added to my car. All it has to do is pass the expection (usually all new cars do) and it's fine to drive there. The car I had shipped was a 300zx '92. I'm not sure about Japan but I don't see why it would be different. Now moving a foreign car overseas to here....that's where you would pay an arm and a leg...so don't buy a car over there thinking that you can ship it here.
