Can I have two cars under two separate car insurance companies read my situation please!?
I have my own insurance on my own car with Farmers Insurance. However, my best friend just bought a new car and her insurance rate sucks. Can I insure my friends car under my name with Gieco and add my friend as a secondary driver and keep my Farmers insurance under my own car? Also, is there any way that Farmers would no if I did this? Do I have to tell anyone I have two insurance companies? Just put insurance, right? THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

- Yes you can put your insurance under two different companies. This is perfectly fine. You would get an even better rate if you insured both cars under Farmers as they give multi-car discounts. However, NO insurance company will give you insurance on your friends car if the title is in her name. Even if it were possible, this is an extremely bad idea because of liability issues. The best thing you can do is call up your agent and ask. They will tell you the truth and tell you what is legal and the cheapest way to go about it. Sometimes they will insure your friend and reduce your rate for refering them!
- You are asking for more trouble than what you're bargaining for. Without getting into the complexities of auto insurance and tort law, you do not want to do this. If your friend has a wreck, BOTH the Geico and Farmers policy can come into play and YES if they wreck your rates can rise. You have to ask yourself a question though...why are the rates for your friend high? Could it be because they have tickets/accidents on their record? Bad credit perhaps. You want nothing to do with this, you really don't.
- Nope. You can't insure a vehicle that doesn't belong to you. You have to have an "insurable interest". In other words, if you wrecked somebody else's car, it really isn't your loss if you didn't own the vehicle. It's too bad your friends' insurance isn't affordable, but there must be a reason why, like a bad driving record or DUI. I think to do what you're suggesting may constitute insurance fraud. Yes, Farmer's can and will find out.
- Why would you bother coz it's worth more trouble than it's worth if other person has accident, it is tantamount to fraud, you will become un-insurable then if only with a huge premium..not worth it. ♥

- You might consider dropping Farmers Insurance all together. Consumer Reports rated Farmers Insurance the worst of 20 insurance companies. The BBB rated Farmers Insurance an "F". JD Powers give Farmers Insurance its worst ratings.
- No you are not going to be able to do this. Bundysmom is right. You do NOT want to insure the vehicle for a friend under your name. If they have an accident it is going to follow you around along with your insurance. DO NOT do this. No matter how good of a friend this is, it is not worth it.
- No doubt the easiest way to get insurance quotes is on the web. Why would you waste your time on the phone calling around? the last time i needed quotes on insurance i used one of these comparison sites and it was great. this is the site i used and it was quick like less than 5 mins. The last thing I want to do is listen to elevator music while waiting for a salesman. Anyway I got good quotes and ended up saving money so I was happy. So shop around and compare quotes which is easy on the net. Good starting point is at this site. http://insurance.deal4-you.com Good luck.
