Who has the the best priced car insurance in Massachusetts?

Massachusetts residents or those familiar with our crazy rules only. I think I am paying too much with AMICA. $1153, with collision and comprehensive. I'm 25 and drive a 2001 Subaru Legacy sedan. Plain legacy not one of the racing GT ones. My driving record is perfect not so much as a verbal warning or anything. Where can I start to look? My premium is high right? (gieco, esurance, progressive, state farm ect....NOT available in mass) If I fill out a form on one of their sites it says sorry can't help you. And why do I see TV commercials for insurance that isn't available here all the time? -10 points to Cheta K. for not reading the whole question.

  1. Well, in Massachusetts, the auto insurance rates are set by the state. So you see commercials for companies that don't want to write insurance in MA, because it's a nasty state to write auto insurance in - you can't get out, you can't cancel someone for their driving record, and you can't refuse to write someone, either - so it's hard to make money. ANYWAY. The rates are all set by the state, BUT, if you're a member of a group, like a credit union, you can get a "group discount" which last I checked was about 5%. All groups get the same discount, and a credit union is the easiest group to join. And the cheapest. So no, you're rate ISN'T high, it's set by the state. You could call every one of the 7 companies that writes auto in MA, and for the exact same coverages, you'll pay the exact same price.
  2. try statefarm
