Do you need to be a resident of a state to purchase insurance for a vehicle there?
I go to school in Oklahoma and am from Massachusetts. Can I buy car insurance in Oklahoma if I am a resident of Massachusetts?

- if you have an address in oklahoma, you can get oklahoma insurance
- u can buy a car in ok, but u can't register it there unless u have a residence there, and a school dorm would not be a residence. since you need to insure the car f/ the state its registered in, u would still need to get a mass insurance policy. i am assuming you don't like the insurance in mass and that's why you're posting this question. please remember though, that even if u have to take out a mass policy f/ the car, if you are keeping it at school w/ u in ok, u need to tell the insurance company this, and different rates would apply, since the car would not be "garaged" in mass.
- Probably. Just tell the agent you are attending school in Oklahoma but a resident of Massachusetts and they should be able to accommodate you.
- The car needs to be insured and titled in the same state. Chech with your state as to what is required to title a car. You will probably have to show proof of residency but that might be as simple as an utility bill (phone and electric). \
