can you get an inspection sticker for an unregistered car?

I live in Massachusetts i have a car thats insurance and registration got cancelled two months ago.The car still has the plates on it. The inspection sticker expired last month but i wanted to get a new sticker ,because im selling the car and i want to make sure it passes before i sell it.If i bring it to get inspected or when they take the registration will they know its not insured and registered? And then not inspect it? What do they want the registration for anyways?

  1. don't even think of putting the car on the road without insurance and registration, unless you like getting tickets and fines
  2. In Texas you can, I don't know about MA.. Call the DMV and ask...
  3. the first thing they ask for before they inspect the car is for proof of insurance and registration. No registration no inspection unless you find a illegal place to do it That is for NJ and NC I do not know about MA
  4. you sure can
  5. In NC you have to have the Registion to get the inspection. Call the place you are going to get inspectioned at.
  6. No, you can't. YOu have to have a valid registration in order to have the inspection done. Don't worry, no one can TEST DRIVE it without the valid plate, either. You can PAY to have it inspected, and just not get the sticker. They want the registration to verify that the car is yours, AND that it's insured. Inspection stickers are NOT transferrable in MA - the new owner is going to have to have it done within 7 days, anyway.
  7. http://www.vehicletest.state.ma.us/ The part you need to read is here: After passing the visual inspection, you then present your vehicle registration to the inspector. A vehicle must have an active registration and matching valid vehicle ID number (found in the left front side of the dashboard) to get a safety or emissions inspection. After the inspector checks that your registration is valid, you pay the inspector $29. Drivers are then asked to exit the vehicle and remain in the waiting area while the inspector administers the safety and emissions tests.
