Will my road violation ticket affect my insurance?

I didn't stop for a school bus when it's lights were flashing, and I got a ticket. I know I have to pay that, but will the ticket affect the price I pay for car insurance? Some tickets don't require you to report them to your insurance agent. Is this one of those. Also, this was in the state of Massachusetts.

  1. Its as simple as this, if you inform your insurance agency of this violation, or they see it, your rates will rise! But since the ticket your refering to doesn't need to be viewed by your insurance or sent in, then my good friend, you are off the hook! Cheers!
  2. In Massachusetts this is considered a moving traffic violation. The Registry of Motor Vehicles will notify your insurance company. Your points will increase, so you will pay more.
  3. Some times you are allowed to take traffic school, and I thought this wouldn't show up on the insurance record, but if you pay, it will. Didn't you study your driving book?
  4. It may affect your insurance - it depends on your agent, if he runs your DMV check when he renews your policy, and the ticket shows up, it is a possibility that your insurance may increase.
  5. Some insurance companies don't raise your rate for just 1 ticket, I sell AIG and Infinity insurance and both of these companies give good driver discounts even if you have 1 ticket. If you have more than 1 ticket already then your premium will probably go up when you renew your policy.
  6. it may depend on the number of points assigned to this violation. usually under a given number of points within a certain time frame will not raise insurance rates. for example, i got a speeding ticket worth four points. after two years the points are erased and i start fresh. however, over a certain number of points in a given time frame and you become a higher risk. and as the other writer said, u dont report to insurance, the state does. we all make mistakes, try not to repeat the really dumb ones. busdrivers have cell phones and will immediately call you in as they should.
  7. In Massachusetts moving violations are reported to your insurance company by the RMV. On the plus side, if it is your first violation your insurance shouldn't go up (but it also won't go down either).
