Can Malaysia car manufacture reach the level of Toyota or Ferrari?
Ferruccio Lamborghini the founder of Lamborghini car is able to manufacture a good sports car because he has the passion and determination the built a car that is better than Ferrari ,without government help at all. Unlike Malaysia car manufacture. Unlike our country car manufacture they are money making machine company with no passion of car. To Anderson Toyota was a textile company Tosobekkkai if you say kelisa is a good car look at this video http://paultan.org/archives/2005/12/19/jeremy-clarkson-annihilates-the-perodua-kelisa/

- I believed that Malaysia can manufacture Automobile up to Toyota standard. However this company is not Proton. Proton had been created to prove Malaysia boleh. Not to achieved a high standard and do it in passion.
- Impossible is nothing, rite? The Malysian can do that and even Proton, my friend! Just Give urselves a lil more time!
- No.Unless you get Japanese Mind to operate, organize and manage ,there 's no way Proton can reach the level of Toyota. At this moment.you can't even mention them on one breath.
- Highly unlikely. Malaysia does not have a tradition of inventions and the so-called automobile industry is relatively young (70s). Italy and Japan have been known for its inventiveness, design capability and high technology - both countries export their technological know-how; while Malaysia relies heavily from such countries to develop their own industrialization program.
- NO WAY!
- Very unlikely....
- no way on earth they can do that. they are not a car maker they are an opportunity taker. --
- Does anyone know what toyota manufacture before toyota changed to automobile industry? I guess Toyota did not changed to manufacturing car just for passion , obviously for money and of course without government help! Yeah unbelieveable! from textile to automobile, ai say man Japan boleh la! um very interesting suggestions some answerers has given, but I thought Proton bought the Lotus stake by cash (all in cash) years ago (if i could remember it well)and became a laughing stock of the world, so where is the Lotus ah?
- change attitude, proton need to; achieve nothing, proton do; success of lamborghini, proton are not; success of perodua, proton might have hope!
- It is possible provided they can change :- 1. Management. 2. Working attitude. 3. Cost Control on purchasing and repair & maintenance. 4. Reward base on performance. They can never change the above fews simple management example, otherwise 90% of the people will be jobless.
- Why not? All they need to do (engineers, designers,CEOs.. etc..) is think out of the box. Perodua got what it takes more than Proton. So personally think Perodua have more chances to reach the same level with that Toyota or Ferrari or BMW.. with or without gov help. But will take time, maybe 20 years, and i think Proton will produce the same junk cars in the next 20 years.
- not in another 20 years to come. is not the question of intelligence, is a question of mentality.
- We can't compare Proton to Ferrari, because Proton & Toyota is based on commercial cars, which manufactured in large amounts and sold. Proton established in the 1980 something when our gov promote Industri Berat Plan (something like that). Our government don't have the passions and determination of cars, Proton is just a symbol of Malaysia to show the world "Malaysia Boleh" (But after 20 years it proves that it's tak boleh). And Proton can't be compare to Toyota. We should compare it to Mitsubishi, since Proton are learning from this company to improve the quality of cars. Well, Wira engine nowadays are still using the very old technology of a 1970 Lancer. But you see the Mitsubishi Lancer at year 2007, how great is it, can go very fast, comfortable & nice. The 1970 Lancer model changes so much compared to the 2006 model, from it's technology & it's looks. But Wira, before 10 years & after 10years also the same, nothing changes except the Rims and the rear part. If Proton wanna live again, very hard, but people will still buy Proton because it's cheaper than other cars. Quality? Can't think about it. Some said Myvi's model are copied from Daihatsu, but it's successful. It's one of the hottest car on town right now. But Proton, doesn't has any hot model at all.
- it might be possible.. only god knows when.. :)
- Perodua Kelisa: best mini car in the UK... good but Proton.... Proton can reach the level only if they stop cheating their customers and start making REAL QUALITY PRODUCTS!!!!
- No. Until Malaysians can manage not even peeing on the seat in public toilets, their abject disregard for putting in any effort will preculde them form doing so.
- Absolutely NO! MAlaysia do not have the skills nor the technology and they will never will.
- The answer is both Yes and No. Yes, proton might be able to make high quality automobile if it is really a malaysian company and enters the free market. To be successful it needs to be independent . a NO because proton is a bumiputera malay company that is that is based on the NEP and protected by the government. Proton was set up using tax payers money NEP is to enrich the malays and not the rest of the multi racial malaysian. Who cares if they the malays be damned if they failed.
- I think that they can be up to those brand names, but maybe they need more time. I mean, Malaysia didn't have its own car until the 1980s. So, our country is still young. I don't know what had happened to PROTON. Why does PERODUA keeps on producing cars that are much better than cars that PROTON produced? Anyway, I kinda like Proton Perdana and Gen 2. As Malaysians, i think we have to support any national products, be it cars or others. At least, we have our own national cars. I'm sorry if i sound too patriotic for you guys. Peace and out!!
- Sure why not if they don't use "sardine can" and stuff like that.
- Yup, Malaysia Boleh!! Haha... But unfortunately for the time being i dont think we are not a match to Toyota or Ferrari yet. Its still consider a baby, and we are just past crawling and now on the phase to learn to walk. I think the attitude too is an important factor til then No Way! Crossed our fingers and hope for the better tomorrow la.
- Of course the possibilities are there. It is a matter of when, who, where, and how. Then it is the level of professionalism, determination, persistence, and the commitment to get there. Are there any Malaysian car manufacturer on that level of international competitiveness as yet?
