Can I buy a new car and have it delivered to another dealer in a different state?

I plan to order it direct from the factory, but since I'm moving from Massachusetts to Arizona soon, I've decided it would be easier to pick up the car from a dealer in Arizona. (I'm not in the mood to drive from Massachusetts to Arizona). Can I coordinate this with a Massachusetts dealer? Also, I'd like to register the car in Massachusetts and have it insured there, because Massachusetts law requires insurers to grant discounts to drivers with Lojack. (Arizona law does not). I'll be a full-time student in Arizona.

  1. yea the dealer in arizona should be able to contact the other dealer and buy the car form the other dealer and then have it shipped to you in arizona....i bought a new truck two months ago and they did not have a truck like i wanted with in a 1000 mile radius. the closest on was in georgia and the and they bought it form them and went to get it and sold it to me.
  2. yes you can do that. my son sells cars in alabama, and he sold a car in alabama and the gentleman picked his new mustang up in of all places arizona. the guy likes the dealer in alabama from when he live there and now he orders on line from my son and registers it in alabama and has it shipped to arizona. i do not know whether there would be a charge for delivery on yours but there is none for the gentleman my son sells to because he has been dealing with the people in alabama for quite a while.
  3. First of all, if you pick up the car in Az. you must get Az. license plates. When you do that you must let your Ins. Co. know about it and you will get insurance enginered for Az. And hang on as far as the cost for plates are there. It's based on the value of the car and if you are driving something fairly expensive it can be costly. I would advise buying the car in your home state and insure it there. And leave it titled in your home state. I don't blame you for not wanting to drive the distance. Have the car shipped. Hope it helps.
  4. Most dealerships should be able to have the vehicle delivered wherever you like, so long as they get the commission. They may charge you for the delivery- that's up to them. I can understand the desire to register and insure the vehicle in Mass. DON'T!!! You're asking for trouble if you do that. 1. If you take possession in AZ, they may not let you drive it off the lot without filling out the proper AZ documentation (including local sales tax). 2. One of the key insurance factors is 'where is the vehicle parked at night'. You may save money in premium by claiming it's in Mass, but as soon as they find out it's in AZ, I guarantee you they will send you a bill for the extra premium. 3. Insuring the car in Mass. even though you KNOW you'll be in AZ is fraud. If you're caught, your insurer will bill you, probably cancel the policy, and you may face federal prosecution.
