if new car ads for dealership show unbelievable prices but say "Several to choose" is it too good to be true?
I live in a big city where large new car dealership advertise in the newspapers with unbelievable prices (thousands less than what the car usually sells for) on new cars. However, usually in small print it will always say "Several to choose" or "few to choose." Is there any chance of actually getting the new car at the lower price or is it just another ploy to get you into the dealership? Has anyone ever gone to the dealer and got a new car for the reduced "special" print ad pricing?

- YES THIS IS A SCAM AND WHAT THEY ARE DOING IS THE OLD "BAIT AND SWITCH" WITH THE CONSUMER. CHANCES ARE THAT THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE THE VEHICLE THAT IS ADVERTISED IN THE PAPER IN THE FIRST PLACE.
- Ditto, SCAM ALERT. I live in a small rural area where the same advertisement fooled me. They had 1 car and you had to be sitting in it to claim it. The intent is to draw you into the dealership.
- Actually, it's the opposite. They put "several to choose from" because often dealerships have only one car at the advertised price. But obviously these cars are the first to be sold, even if they have several of them. If you want that particular car, call ahead and ask if they still have it, and if they allow you to put a hold on it. If not, ask if they'll give you the same amount of money off the price of another car as the one in the ad. If not, don't even bother going.
- If they say there are several to choose from, it means they have more than one. However, they are counting on you not liking the base model and upgrading to one with more equipment and a higher price. If they do not have the vehicle listed in the advertisement then it was a bait and switch and you can report them to your state attorney general. Beware! THE BIG PRINT GIVETH! the small print taketh away!
