Will the economic stimulus payments effect car prices this summer?
I'm wanting to buy a used van in the near future. I didn't know if the economic stimulus payments coming later in the summer would effect car prices positively or negatively. Should I wait until then to buy or hurry and get one now?

- car prises will not be mush effected.
- The economic stimulus is a drop in the bucket. It won't stimulate anything. The prices of new cars will increase through inflation and the lowering of the value of the dollar. The value of used gas guzzling vehicles like vans will decrease as the cost of gas increases, and it will continue to do so. If you are cost conscious, please consider the fuel economy of your van as a cost consideration over the number of years you plan to drive it. If you do the math, you will be surprised at how much it adds up. At 5.00 a gallon a 10mpg van driving 1000 miles a month will cost you $500.00 a month in gas bills. In a year, this will be $6000.00 in fuel bills. If instead you spent 6000.00 more on the vehicle and it had twice the fuel mileage (20mpg), it would cost more for the first year but be saving you money in the second and all subsequent years, all other things being equal.
- It won't effect a thing in the car business. The money is not geared at lowing prices. The purpose is for people to go out and buy something with the money they get in hopes of kick starting the economy.
