What is the best way to buy a cheap good used car in Perth?

Do I go for used car yards with a warranty and buy back clause? Or do I look in Quokka? Not much budget I am afraid....only 2-3k AUD max.

  1. Car yards are exempt from giving warranties on cars selling for less than $2,000 anyway. Its a purely personal decision on your part, and will depend on your level of confidence in any vehicle that you might choose. Any car in the $2-3,000 range is in the "banger" category. You might get a good one or you might get a bad one.
  2. Look in the Quokka. Or visit Joe Newmans Autos in Victoria Park.
  3. Go for the Quokka, but beware of illegal traders (check for multiple listings with the same phone numbers). At that price you won't get much from a trader when you include their price markup. If you can, find a friend to come along who knows something about basic car mechanicals. Unfortunately the clowns that govern the state (of all parties) won't put through laws for the most basic of roadworthiness checks, so you may well find that most are quite unroadworthy.
