How big of a trailer can I safely pull behind my Toyota 4Runner with a V6? Cross country and back once only.?

I am going to drive from San DIego to New York and back. I want a trailer (either travel trailer or enclosed trailer) and I am trying to figure out how big I can go. The car sales people tell me one thing and the RV people tell me something else. What do you think?

  1. call the company that makes your car. wieght also plays a part.
  2. You can pull a 18 wheeler trailer with a 5th wheel attachment....we used to do this to deliver cars across country. It was a chop shop operation but i am outta the joint now and selling matchbox cars and assbleaching kits on Ebay.I found Jesus in prison and he is spanish and living with me now.
  3. This answer is in your owner's manual AND on a sticker probably located on the driver's door. It says GVWR which is the total weight you can have including the weight of the vehicle. The sticker (and manual) should also tell you the empty weight of the vehicle. Don't forget to include passengers and luggage when calculating GVW.. (gross vehicular weight)
