The next step to car repair?

I have a 2001 Saturn SL2 that I bought this summer and it's nothing but a nightmare. THe check engine has been on since July and I've already had 2 oil checks (I commute), a tune up, replaced the starter, and replaced the water pump. The light is still on......The first two times I had a diagnositc test done they both said something about a secondary fuel injection malfunction. Do I just need to get the fuel system cleaned???? I'm wanting to trade in the car or sale the car for the remaining balance at the top of the year but I'll get a HORRIBLE trade in value with that light on and no one will buy a car with the "check engine" light on. Any thoughts?? I'm going to give the buy a new fuel(gas) cap a try and unplugging the battery before I put more money into this car (it's already costed me about a $700-800) how long do I wait for the power to drain from the on board computer before hooking everything back up???

  1. Hi, Let me give you a good piece of advice. Buy a new fuel cap! 5.00 I bet your check engine light will stay off. An easy way to reset the engine light is to take the battery cable off and turn on the headlights to drain the power from the on board computer.
  2. yea, unplug the light ....really tho have the jets cleaned professionally they have a machine to clean them...jet cleaner from a bottle won't work
  3. You're going to have to bite the bullet and take it to someone who knows how to diagnose it properly. It probably isn't a big deal.
