- If you bought it at a buy here pay here you will pay the sales tax at some point in the transaction before you will get a clear title. By the way did you ask about any warranty. Usually they Will help in getting it running in order to collect the rest of the money owed.
- you can but upon transfer of title at court house or dmv the taxes must be paid before title can change names or be re liscensed...tell buyer they are responsible for any taxes that is why you are selling it for the price you are or they can pay you more for car and you will pay taxes...just make sure whatever you do get it out of your name most states require buyer transfer within three days...you do not want anyone driving a vehicle in your name ...what if they committed a hit and run and fled the seen...a wittness sees the liscense plate...they find the car a few blocks away abandoned...guess who goes to jail ???
- You pay the sales tax when you register and title the vehicle in your name. If you haven't registered the vehicle in your name you can't sell it as you're NOT the legal owner. And as long as it's financed through the seller, you can't sell it until you pay off the note. 1. Register it in your name NOW. 2. Pay off the note. 3. Sell the car to whomever you please. OR, get a junk yard engine and have it installed. This way you have a car with a known good engine and several years to decide what to do with the car.
