How many gallons of water does car manufacturers use to pre-wash new cars before putting on primer?

For each new car. Of course, I think they need to wash the car after painting it also, don't they? Also how many new cars are manufactured each day, around the world? Does anyone know? I did not know that. But I do dare assume they use huge amounts of water to wash off the chemicals before putting on the paint? Please, educate me on this issue. I have heard many different stories.

Public Comments

  1. They are not washed with water. They are chemically cleaned in dipping tanks.
  2. They likely don't use any water to wash before primer, as that would cause rust. The car would not be washed until the dealer did so, likely just before delivery to the customer.
  3. They wouldn't use water, it would cause rust. They wouldn't use water on them until they get to the dealership. But I am sure a lot of water is used to wash them until they are sold.
  4. Italyguy is correct The 'bare Bodies' are dipped in a large tank with a chemical cleaner. The tank is filtered like a huge swimming pool and the liquid is re-used all year long. In most assembly plants the auto is water-leak tested by passing through something like a carwash.. This water is also filitered and re-used.
