2004 Chevy Malibu Classic Transmission Issues?

My car started shifting hard suddenly today. I called my auto mechanic immediately who said, shut it off and back on. I did and it stopped doing it. He called back and said, "bad news, I called the tranny shop and they said that was a sign it was going bad and it's a matter of time now." So, because I am a single Mom with a special needs child, I don't have the money and don't want to get ripped off. My car would sit and I would be walking a long way to and from work every day and that isn't good with a special needs child waiting on me. So, I am researching this. I found on the Internet: 1) get more than one opinion from tranny shops and 2) have the sensors checked at an Auto parts store because it could be something simple. Any other advice? Anything to look for or ask? Anything, please help. I may be driving on borrowed time. Thanks so much! :-)

  1. i would just find a good shop and have it checked out. talk to friends and family and see if they have any recommended shops
  2. Should still be under warranty, check with a dealer.
