Why do some people rather just fix up their old car than get a better new car even when they can afford one?
I know this lady that has had this Oldsmobile since like the late 80s. I think with all the money she has spent on repairs in the last 10 years old so she could have bought herself a nicer car that wasn't so old! I mean I could understand if it were like a classic car that doesn't go out of style like a Corvette or Mustang or something, but an 89, 90 Oldsmobile and Buick?! Why do people do that?

- Sentimental reasons.
- To keep mechanics like me busy. Mind your own business.
- Love of the car, familiar with it's performance, "I've already invested this much...", not wanting another car payment or don't have enough money to pay cash for a new one. Pick one...
- one person's junk another person's dream don't judge a person one what they have she's probably happy with what she has who knows she may not like Corvettes or Mustangs
- some cars have sentimental value, for example, they brought their first child home in that car, or lost their virginity in that car, lol just kidding...but you get my point.
- Has she got big butt, its the same as you liking big buts she might like the old car, each to their own, you can't change the way people are, some times we wish we could, (now if it came to the wife, then I would definitely trade her in), I have an old sierra and I feel the same way, I put money into it, because I know the car, and I love that car
- a newer car that you don't know the maintenance history on can be a lot more trouble than an older car that you know you have taken care of and know what's been replaced and the newer the vehicle you are looking at is the shorter its expected lifespan and reasonable reliability is. I drive a 1985 vw jetta with 360,000 mi on it, it gets better fuel mileage than a brand new Prius, cost me $300 to buy it 5 yrs ago, starts every time, I spend everyday doing thousands of dollars in repairs on vehicles that are less than 5 yrs old, why would anyone want to spend money on the crap auto manufacturers are selling today?
- Maybe she really liked the car. I drive a 1984 Ford LTD 3.8L. It is a very reliable car. I paid $500 for it and haven't put a dime into it in almost 2 years. To answer your question it is one of those things that people do that nobody will everstand.
- ppl resist change they dislike the car buying experience. dealerships are rip off artist not salesmen. take your pick. it's a love thing
