What is the cheapest way to buy a new car?

I plan on buying a new car with a loan from my bank. I want to know any tricks about buying that make it cheap. Is it cheapest to buy it from a dealer versus some other way? Are all dealers going to charge the same? Can I negotiate the price of a new car? Are certain times of year or any other factors likely to raise or lower the price? Thank you very much!

  1. well from what i know, if it's too cheap...it's too good to be true. prices like $6000 or $7000 mean that the car will be not too great. try and see what the dealerships offer you but everyone offers something different. just remember that if it sounds too good to be true...it probably is.
  2. consider .. two kinds of "cheap" there are tricks for lowest total price. .. there are tricks for lowest payment. Almost all dealers negotiate. End of model year is often cheapest. But sales abound. Beginning or end of month tends to be good too. You want a good, but not "popular" car. Popular cars have a premium price and are not as negotiable. Often there is a teaser car without many options. If you can live w/o those options .. buy it. It can be thousands cheaper. Dig around on blue book and related sites so you have a good idea of what the car should cost. all that being said .. better off buying someone's creampuff used car with low millage. Some person's "baby" .. now yours! They often work surprisingly well.
  3. The best way to go about it is to research the car you want...compare it with other cars good place to do this is on edmunds.com Look up the Invoice price and use that as a guideline. I would say try to pay invoice but a little over doesn't hurt.
  4. check this website http://www.dealertricks.com/ this one shows rebates http://autos.msn.com/home/rebates_all.aspx
