How can I find the value of my Classic car?

I inheirited a 1966 Chevy Caprice all in original condition( so needs some T.L.C.) and have no idea what it's worth. Does anyone know of a website or something that takes into account options/condition, etc when assigning value? It has the 396 (big block), with matching numbers, and all power options (seats, windows, AC, etc, all from original), with auto transmission. It's been stored inside since 1978, so is virtually rust-free, just dusty. It is NOT in perfect condition - needs new paint/interior fabric, etc from age. Would love to restore self (inheirited from Grandfather), but realistically by time have time and money....... I'd rather someone else enjoy it. Someone please help me so I don't rip myself off - I have no idea what this is worth!! (My first guess was $1000, but is obviously way too low, according to Ebay, etc) Is there somewhere I can get a more accurate number?

  1. try kellybluebook (kbb.com) don't know if you've tried it and don't know if it list classic cars, but it's worth a shot. by the way if you don't already know, kbb is a sight that lists prices for vehicles based on it's condition and everything. i used it a lot when i tried to sell my truck. i believe that they also have something on there where you can list your vehicle for sale (not sure on that last part, but...) good luck and sorry if i didn't help but it was my first guess
  2. Drew, it depends on what options it has that still works. And if it runs or at least turn over(engines are apt to seize up sitting that long) And if ya hook up a jumper cable to the battery or put in a new battery do the pwr options still work or are they seized up too. Is it a 2 dr or 4 dr hardtop or sedan? I would be interested in it if you are within a couple hundred mi. of Cincinnati. Contact me at eldoradodave@yahoo.com
  3. E-bay gives you a good feel for what a certain vehicle year make and model are going for. A 66 Caprice that only needs TLC is a rare find and would probably bring you chunk of change, especially if you put the restoration on it yourself. You don't have anything in it, so spend some money on it and triple your investment.
  4. You might look for an Old Cars Price Guide, www.oldcarspriceguide.net It will give you car conditions 1 through 6. You can get a subscription. You may be able to order individual copies. It is published 6 times a year. Feb., April, June, August, October and December. You may call them at (715) 445-2214 They are located in Iola, Wisconsin. Depending on condition and body style, it can be from (#6) 4dr. St. wag, $760 to a (#1) 2dr ht $26,000 You can add 35 per cent for a 396 and 15 per cent for A/C. I also live near Cincinnati, Ohio you can contact me through the Yahoo answers connection
  5. Top value's actually for the wagon, followed by the two-doors. Hemmings has five assorted '66s listed, the lowest at $14,000 for what I'd bet is a #3 car. I say list it in Hemmings at $10,000 OBO if it's a four-door, $12,500 for a four door, $15,000 for a wagon or convertible.
