Classic Car Valuation - SLR 5000 Torana?

I need some advice about how to sell and value my Torana SLR5000. Its technically 138/75 which I have been told is the 138th car made in 1975 but is a 1976 torana as that’s the year it was released. It is an LX SLR5000 and has a kingswood engine in it. It has weld plates in the back and a fire extinguisher inbetween the front two seats and a racing steering wheel – clearly it has been raced as some stage. Its in really good condition with one tiny patch of rust I can see about 1.3” long on door. Seeing as they vary from about 10K to 176K and I have fallen in love with the car completely but circumstances in my life have changed and I need to buy a house for me and my son to live in I need to start thinking of selling it and get the most amount I can. If I can't get the value I at least want to put it on the market for what I hoped but not sure how to extract relevant car information. Thanks in advance

  1. Do you have a link to a picture of the car? Im in Aus so i'd like to try and help you out. As you know, the price of 70's muscle cars has skyrocketed over the last few years. Its possible to make a great deal of money on a well looked after original classic. Now, as soon as you say that it has a Kingswood motor, you lose value. Anyone who will pay big money for a SLR will want it to be totally original. What I am wondering however, is what Kingswood motor is in it, as Kingswoods only had a 253 or a 308 fitted, and the SLR already has a 308. Some Kingswoods came out with a Chev, but that would mean a gearbox change (unless the block was redrilled to suit a M21) Also, the weld plates indicate that a half cage has been fitted, and the fire extinguisher more than likely means the car was raced, as you point out. Has the car been repainted? most race cars are damaged and have marks where the numbers and sponsors names go, so, if it is repainted, is it the original colour? So, what colour is the car? What wheels are fitted? Apart from the engine, is the car stock? Does it have th guard flares, bonnet bulge and rear spoiler, large tank, or is it a totally stock original SLR5000? Now, as for value, before I see photos I cant say. Your low price is probably right, and I have seen SLR's sell for more than you mention, however, I know yours wont go that high. Do you have the parts to put the car back to original? That will help with the value? Is the car rego'd? Is it inusured? What is the insurance value? Come back and edit your post with some more info and ill have another look!
  2. Since you say their is rust then it has not been restored i take it so it will be on lowest side of scope. Miles and condition as well as if numbers match also come into play. It is worth whatever someone will give inthatcondition. Could be 3000.00-12000 depending on all varibles. If speedometer does not work excpect only about 1000.00 as they will lose all value without miles accurate.
