Overhaulin'

I bought a car at a police auction. If the car has a lein on it do I have to pay the lein?

I found out~ at a sherriffs auction YOU DO HAVE TO PAY A LEIN IF THERE IS ONE !! Thankfully there wasn't one. HOWEVER~ they tell you check with Carfax. CARFAX did not tell us there was/was not a lein on any vehicle we looked up. Sherriff's auction are wonderful- if you are careful- or lucky !!

  1. If you want a title. yes.
  2. no
  3. so the car should come with a clear title, or the police just ripped you off....
  4. title sez who owns the car...if it sez first national bank..guess who owns it....the bank.....i dint know what planet the little girl lives on who said no....
  5. yes you do or you cant register and its not street legal to drive until the paperwork is done!
  6. The police cannot sell a car that has a lein placed on it. The would have to surrender the vehicle to the finance company listed on the title. If a car is impounded and siezed, owner the owner releases interest in the car NOT the bank. They still want the money or the car.
  7. Yes - any debt or entitlement must be cleared before you have clear ownership. The police are not vehicle dealers so take no responsibility for the vehicles they dispose of.
