Has anyone here actualy got a car from a police auction or any other kind of auction?

Are these cars as inexpensive as advertised? Are they in good shape mechanically and body wise?

  1. My grandpa has, he still drives it and it runs good
  2. No, you are going to be outbid by people who really know what they are doing. If you end up getting a car from the auction chances are you aren't going to get as good of a deal as you would have hoped. Best way is to shop private party with cash in hand and offer rediculously low prices. Key words like "divorce forces sale" are what you should look for in the ads. If they are asking 10k bring 5k cash and make an offer. You get the idea.
  3. Yes it matters what auction u go to. I got a 2004 Black Volvo for 500.00 bucks.... Love it...
  4. I have, and no, there are fees that you have to pay for as well, which I'm sure they don't mention. Let alone it all depends on how many people are trying to bid on it when you are as well. It depends on the timing and all.
  5. I purchased a 96 jeep cherokee sport from Philadelphia public auto auction for $1200.00. 2 months ago I've seen them in this area same year priced at $2800 and up. No major problems yet
  6. My man used to buy and sell cars from auctions. Usually they would need work, but he would do it himself and then sell them for more money. As long as you have someone with you that knows what to look for in a good running car....you should be fine and atleast get your moneys worth.
  7. They are not as cheap as advertised. It is an auction so the price completely depends on who is there and if someone bids more than you. The condition varies from junkers to cars in pefect shape. Nothing is done to them mechanically or cosmetically so you buy at your own risk. If you trust the crack dealer who owned the car before you then go for it. You can get a good deal if you know what to look for.
  8. Yes my cousin did and the motor is excellent and the body is in excellent shape, just need a sound system and rims and a different paint job. It did not cost her much she bought an 2002 Chevy V8. She bought a Police Car.
  9. My husband and I went to a police auction with a female friend. She bought a really nice car for $800, which was worth over $3000. Her family had it for over a year until their son totaled it on his 16th birthday!
  10. I have bought several in the past. They are good buys if they come from a department that takes care of their cars. they depend on these cars and usually are kept in top condition. if they are from some of the smaller agency's that do not have good funding then watch out . The auctions are like all auctions, you might get a real bargin. it all depends on who is there to buy.
