Overhaulin'

Can a car sale be overturned when the seller have submitted the ownership release to DMV??

I just sold a car. I submitted ownership release to DMV online last night, but the buyer said he found a mechanical problem and he wants his money back. It is clearly not my fault. Is there any way he can overturn the car sale?? this is in California

  1. Depends on the state law. You may just be in a situation where he could sue you. In the end though, wouldn't it just be easier to settle this with him instead of giving a bunch of lawyers some money?
  2. Used cars are sold as-is. Unless you specified a warranty the problem is now his. He had the opportunity to have it inspected at a shop or by a mechanic prior to ourchase. Tell him "no refunds". It is now his car.
  3. If he hasn't gone and actually completed the transfer process (and HE has to do it -- you only sign the title over to him), then it hasn't officially and legally been transferred yet. It's up to you whether or not the sale is final. If he signed anything that said he was buying the car "as is", he needs to look up what "as is" means. If you don't give him his money back, he can probably sue you for it.
  4. NO
