If i buy a car with cash, what, other than the car, should the dealer give me immediately?

Thinking about buying a car with cash, i know that the dealer would give me the car on that same day but what other stuff would they also hand over immediately. I'm specially interested in the the documents like the title, vehicle registration of other stuff like license plates. Any help or advice is appreciated.

  1. nothing
  2. More importantly. Ask for...no... demand the undercoating. Otherwise you're screwed.
  3. Titles take a few weeks to send out to you from the DMV (4 to 6 weeks) Registration gets sent with your plates about two weeks later (if your car is new or needs new plates) You will get owners manuel, two sets of keys (or more if its new, you can always request a second key if the car is used...) a clean car and any other paperwork (lemon law statement, receipts for payment, warranty info if you bought it) *ask them to throw in some floor mats too...some cars come without them.
  4. You should get the car, a bill of sale/buyers order, and temporary tag. The additional paperwork will depend on what the dealership has for the car. For instance, if they just got the car in on trade, you may not get the title for a couple weeks. Some states require the dealership to get the plates, however not all do, so you will want to find out from the dealership who is plating the car. Within 23 days max, you should receive the title, odometer statement(s)<if you traded in a car>, and either the plates & registration or a completed title application with the remaning paperwork you will need to get your plates. Keep your answer can vary slightly depending on where you live.
  5. Every state is different, but in my state, the day you buy the car you would get a one pay (contract) and a temporary permit, so you can drive the car. It would be a couple of weeks to get the plates and the reg. and then you would get the title after we registered the car in your name the state will issue a title in your name and mail it to you, here that takes about 30 days for DMV to issue a title in your name and mail it to you. Do dealers in your state do licensing, or do you go to DMV and do it yourself? If you do it yourself then you can go get the plates the same day you buy the car, they will give you a one pay and a slip for Dmv to prove ownership and get plates, then DMV will send you a title. Good job on paying cash for a car.
  6. They won't give you anything, probably. They will fill out a temporary tag for you. Most dealers would make you sign over power of attorney to them to register the car in your name. They do that to make sure the car gets registered, so that they don't own it any more. Insurance becomes your problem.
