Going into a dealer ship to buy a car with cash - what is there to fill out and what will they ask me for?

- Drivers license, insurance proof and ability to pay (cash, check or credit card).
- Don't be pressured to buy "today". Be prepared to walk out. If they keep changing salesmen on you leave. ie: You tell one something, then they give you a new one, now every thing the last one agreed to was incorrect, then they do that to you again... I'd call the department of motor vehicles in in your state and ask what they need from you if you have a new car. Have your insurance picked out. I like Amica. Just me, but If it is a used car you want, I'd get a certified honda or toyota. You can't beat the quality.
- Good for you.First make sure that you know cash goes along way with dealers and you have the power to get a great deal. If you do not know how to get the best deal maybe you could get a friend to go with you that knows how . When you have cash the only info they need is addres and drivers license. If I may offer one more piece of advice, if you want to build a good credit score you could put a large down payment have some low monthlyu payments. to cover those payments put the rest of the money in the bank or hang on to it to cover the payments. But cash out is great too.
- I'm in the process of researching how to buy a new car. There is a lot of information that you should know before walking into a new car showroom. There is a website called www.carbuyingtips.com. This has a lot of very useful information. I'm also using a car buying information service called www.fightingchance.com. While it isn't free, it has a lot of information you will need, plus a simple method that will save you both time and money. Just one piece of advice - dealers won't give you a better discount if you pay with cash. They get paid the same whether you pay with cash or a loan. The only way to get the best deal is to be an informed buyer. Buying a car at a few hundred dollars over invoice may sound like a good deal, but without knowing the true cost it may actually be a lousy deal. Do yourself and favor and check out www.fightingchance.com. You won't even have to step into a showroom untill you're ready to pay, and you'll get the best deal without speaking with a slimy salesman. Good Luck
- Over $10,000 you will need to fill out an IRS form and ID. If it is a bank check, you will need nothing. I hope you had the vehicle inspected by your own mech. Enjoy you new car Mark
- Wolfy is right, if you have cash to buy the car you have some clout. I don't know about paper work. But I did this and it worked great. I decided on the exact car I wanted before entering dealership (make & model), found out what it cost the dealer (see edmund new car prices), then go to the dealership and say 1. I know what car I want 2. I will pay cash 3. This is how much I will pay And thats it, if dealer doesn't agree you walk. Dealer will have a change of heart. Stick by your guns and don't let him talk. Repeat the 3 demands above. Do your homework before you go. I bought the car without regard to color, transmission or accessories. Because once you start saying I want this color, this option yak yak yak. The dealer starts adding on and making all kinds of statements like " oh we only have 1 in this color but it also has this$, this$, rustproofing, that$, this$, interior fabric protection $300 etc etc. So limit your preferances to as few as possible, say you don't care about the color (at least not until the very last moment). Know what your trade in is worth (edmunds used car prices, try to get halfway between dealer resale and trade in price.http://www.edmunds.com/tmv/used/index.html If you must have an Automatic/AC whatever put these in your list of "I won't compromise" demands right at the outset (123 above).Take away the salesmans power by saying I want this and nothing but this (unless its free) and I will pay this much in cash ($500 over what the manufacturer charged the dealership for the car http://www.kbb.com/, look up all possible rebates http://www.automotive.com/new-cars/rebates/ and consider them in "YOUR OFFER" not his offer Your Offer). Tell them your pressed for time. Dealer's make their commissions being crafty, you be craftier. You positively don't need rustproofing, paint protection or any of that other BS. Good Luck If the dealer says "I don't know, I will have to ask my boss" or makes other delay moves. Give him a few minutes and then say "call me." But stick by your demands.
- They usually want a drivers license and proof of insurance though, they tend to look the other way if you have cash.
