Help. Wanting to buy a car with cash.?

Here is my situation, I need a new van and want to buy a used one but pay for it in full with cash. I've done payments before and i've also bought a car in full from a private party but this time around I'm buying from a dealership. I'm just wondering how I go about getting the best deal. I'm looking at 2 vans, both are 05' models. One is a Chrysler Town and Country w/ 53K miles the other is a Dodge Caravan with 22K miles. I also have to buy a car next summer (also paid for in full at time of purchase) so I'm working on a limited budget and really need to get the most for my money. Thanks.

  1. Get quotes online from the dealers you want to buy from. That's what I did and I paid exactly the price I was quoted.
  2. First, do you have a vehicle to trade? If so, I'd consider selling that myself - you'll get more for it that way. Then, you'll have some additional cash to bargain with. Understand, dealers make money financing vehicles. So, first thing is to get the best price you can from the dealer without letting him know you might have a trade-in vehicle. I'd also check for price with dealers in nearby communities. Go on-line to see what your vehicle is worth. Once you have found your best price then ask how much better they can do for you if you have a trade-in vehicle. Do not let them change the price they offered you without the trade! Work from that price! Your other bargaining chip is perhaps a lower price from a dealer in a nearby community! And, if it all comes within your budget - go for it!! Good luck!
