Does any one know if someone can buy a car with CASH!!! (like $20,000)?

I live in a domestic abuse situation and I desperately need a car to gain freedom. I'm planning to buy a car during my spring break, a new Chevy cobalt LS at a local dealership, but because I'm a college student just starting out, i don't have a credit card and i dont have a check book. I just have a savings account. Can I purchase a new car with this much cash or could i just provide my bank account number. Please, any help with this situation is necessary, I'm struggling really bad here...

  1. You can but the IRS will need to know. The IRS is informed of any purchases in cash over 10 grand
  2. Go to the dealership and make a deal on the car. Go to the bank and get a cashier check for the amount you agree on. Take cashier check to dealer and the car is yours. Since you are young the best option would be getting a low interest loan for car. Then pay 10K down and finance the balance. This will build up your credit rating when you make your payments on time each month.
  3. yes you can in fact its a alot better that way because you will get some discounts when you give them cash and you wont have to finance anything means no payments go to the car dealership find what you want and tell them you are paying cash
  4. of course.. cash is cash..
  5. walk into any dealership with a $20000 wad and point at a $27000 car. when a sales rep says they cant do it shrug your shoulders, turn around and say you are going to buy a honda. car salespeople work off of commission and quantity. they will severely discount a car before they lose a sale. also pretend like you dont really want the car. if you say to them what you said to us on this site, they will see that you NEED the car and you will do anything to get it. even pay full price.remember, there is more than one car dealer.good luck
  6. Yes and by paying CASH you can 'wheel & deal' a good Bargain! make a GOOD deal then just get a Cashiers Check...and it's yours....Don't forget Registration, and License fees! I do suggest you open some kind of a "Checking Account" in the NEAR future, it shows Stability. p.s. NEVER give out your Bank Account Number, like that. You have the 'Cash in hand'. You're in the 'Drivers Seat', (Pardon the Pun)! GOOD LUCK!!
  7. Go in with 9000.00 down cash that way it doesn't have to be reported to the IRS. Then go to the post office and get money orders in increments for the rest and know one can question it. I have done this 2 times in my life and it works
  8. the only thing i know for sure about buying cars is that you must NOT appear desperate! that's the only important thing. cash in hand is a good thing... as is confidence. i know this seems hard, but girl, you can do it. i can tell you're very strong. *hug*
  9. Cash is still good for all debts, public & private. I'd look for a good used car first though.
  10. just walk in with 20,000 dollars in 100 dollar bills and make it rain in there they wont deney you if you do that....dont get a chevy go for a honda itll last longer and be nicer on gas also its cheaper and looks better
  11. If the money is in a savings account go to your bank and ask them to certify the money with a certified check and take it in and buy your new car. Good choice, also 20,000 is way to much for a Chevy cobalt LS. any questions email me! Best of luck Ray
