Can I use my hsbc maestro debit card to buy a new car in the uk ?

If so do I have to inform the bank first ?

  1. no, your HSBC debit card will have a 150pound limit, it's a debit not credit card.
  2. if you got the money in the bank then yes you can, why would you want to inform the bank ? as for the £150 limit.................. rubbish
  3. I bought my car on my debit card without any problem, as long as it is chip and pin you shouldn't have a problem. As it is likely to be quite a large amount I would give the bank a bell first so it doesn't get declined.
  4. Assuming the money is in your bank and the car dealership will let you use maestro, there is no reason why not. I would not post publicly the most I have spent in one transaction on my debit card, but while the daily cash withdrawal limit is £250 and the cheque guarantee value is £100, I do not think that there is an upper limit on your card. For security purposes though, I would inform my bank before making such a large transaction, simply because they might think someone has stolen your card and is trying to buy a car with it. Good luck :-)
  5. you should be able to use your debit card to make any purchase, providing there are sufficient funds in your bank account to make the purchase. However, to be on the safe side check with the bank first, as a large transaction may be flagged as a security risk, and the transaction declined by the bank. a safer option would be to get a bank draft (a sort of pre-paid cheque)
  6. Stay well away from the Maestro it was a crap car and if you are unfortunate to come across one these days you'd be able to buy it out of your loose change.
  7. You have to have the money in your account first but it pays to tell the bank first so they don't log it as a suspicious transaction. Be aware that most HSBC branches will not allow you to speak with a Manager so get the persons name that you contact. I assume the seller has the capacity to accept such payments?
  8. There is no limit on an HSBC maestro debit card. As long as you have the funds in your bank account to cover the transaction. You do not have to inform your bank on what you purchase! Just make sure that the car dealer accepts this card.
  9. Ring your bank first, they will will proably refuse to honour your transaction unless they are forewarned.
