what is the most fuel efficient or hybrid car to buy in australia?

with petrol prices going thru the roof, i want to buy a new/newer car that is less costly to run.

1. Just incase you dont know ive not long got back from a trip from france and i rented a new citroen C4 deisel 4 door hatch, i was amazed it was only 1600cc, the performance was increadable, and i got 1100 kms on one tank, did this twice because i did 2700kms, i never ever liked deisels but have changed my mind now, and the car was so comfortable, they are probably available in australia.
