Overhaulin'

I want to sell my car for parts, but how do I do that???

I have relaced the water pump, altenator, starter, timing belt and had new brakes put on two weeks ago. They said the transmission is locked up and that is another $1500. Who could I talk to to sell it for parts. I have put all these parts on in the past year.

  1. Place it on Craigslist.com it free, make sure you open and account first find your city/state and place your ad on there
  2. You could also try ebaymotors.com. There is a section for car parts which also includes whole parts cars. Be reminded if you try to sell the whole car, you can not mention that it has a title in the parts cars section.
  3. run you an add in the local auto trader and put the price and the type car it is,and the price you want for it, i guarantee you willl sell it,someone is always looking for parts for any car made, and you will sell it,it may take a week or two to sell it but once the add comes out you,ll get a lot of calls on it,and someone wil buy it,good luck on it,
  4. try these web sites. autotrader.com these are free craigslist.org Recycler.com for southern california pennysaver.com
  5. I've never heard of a transmission "locking up".Maybe you could get a second opinion before you do something rash.Just a thought,I know you work hard for your money.
  6. You could also check with the local salvage yards, they usually will buy a car like that to sell for part....shop around for the best price. You proabably won't have much luck with ebay or autotrader since most people are looking for a car they can actually drive.
  7. You take out the part without damaging, and find a buyer. This is how it works because most buy isn't going to remove the parts out of your car. The most of the listed parts are garbage. No one buys used water pump, timing belt, and brake pads. You might be able to find a buyer for alternator and starter. Find yourself a student mechanic and have him disassemble everything usable out of the car. Then put an ads out to find part buyer. You can also ask salvage yard to take you car, but they won't pay you much for it.
