Question about.. Opening a business at a home selling car parts.?

As the question states I would like to sell car performance parts out my house.. Not having my house full of parts or anything just with getting a business license to get whole sale prices. and when someone wants something ill order it and sell it is this legal to do threw a home... how hard is it to get a business license.. What do i need to get the license and what do i need to do to start what i want to do.... Thanks for your time... im in california by the way

  1. It is according to state and local laws, but you should be able to go to your local court house or city hall to obtain the proper information.
  2. Business licenses in and of themselves are not difficult to obtain. The problem with this type of business you are proposing, however, is that waiting for someone to request something and you order it does not typically fall into what most distributors would call a wholesale operation. Definitely check your local laws as some states require certain types of businesses to have a sign and a phone number separate from you place of residence to operate under a business license.
  3. You leave out the place you live. This may not matter since in many areas zoned for residential use it will not be permitted to carry on a business of this kind. You would find that info from your municipal zoning office. Business licenses will definitely vary by state.
