  1. you need to call his bank in the u.k. dial 011-44- and then the number. also you could go to your bank and they should be able to handle it for you before you ship the car.
  2. this is a scam, I would tare up the check and sell the car to someone who looks at it.
  3. You should visit "craigslist" and read some of the scams. One is where they send you a check that is no good... but you won't find out till the bank does, often is a week or two and usually after you have shipped the goods. Another is where they send a check for much higher than you requested (or money order, or cashiers check), and they tell you the balance is for the shipper. YOU deposit it, give the shipper cash, and never see them again, of course the check, MO, or cashiers check is not good. YES, they can stop payment on all of these. ASK your bank, how long it wil take to clear, then wait.
  4. Yes it is legal to buy a car from the U.S. to the U.K. Also how did he know what the shipping would cost. A vehicle would have to be shipped by container ship in which the car would be placed in a container. Which also means you should have stipulated that if he wanted the car shipped, he should have arranged that himself including pick up from where you live. As for him not looking at the car, well that happens everyday on E-Bay, ppl don't see the car that they buy with the exception of photographs taken by the owner. And as long as the check clears and it covers your shipping to the UK then I don't see what the problem is, with maybe how he will sign the registration papers
