I want to sell my car on craigslist is it okay to accept certified check in US dollars?

the person who e-mail me said that they won't be present, they will have there personal shipping company pick up the car is it okay to do so?

  1. That would send up red flags in my mind. I work as a bank teller and I see this type of stuff everyday, but even non-banking people should know the severity. It's easy nowadays to forge ANYTHING, checks, certified checks, money orders, etc, so what I would do is say that you cannot release the car to ANYONE until the check clears your account at your bank. By clear I mean deposit it and wait about a week and a half so it clears the bank it's drawn off of. It's also suspicious that they're not going to be present and they're going to have their 'personal shipping company' pick up the car. What if the check bounces? You're out whatever the value of the car was AND the car! Your best and quickest bet would be to either do a physical cash transaction, wire transfer into your bank account, or paypal. Don't do anything unless you're comfortable doing it.
