Need to sell my car! Please Help!!?

My car is junk. 1992 Buick Lesabre with the tranmission out. It has a V6 3.8 liter. I will need some one to tow it. I really need the most money I can get for it but I don't know anything about selling cars. How much should I be able to get from this car w/o screwing someone over on it. So a guy wants to buy it for $200. Which is less than I was expecting. But he'll come and tow it. Should I wait and see if I can get more out of it?

  1. why don't you make a few calls to local shops and mechanics etc... get their opinions. Talk to some of your friends that might know about stuff like this.
  2. As you say, it's junk. If someone removes it for free, maybe that's as good as it gets. Try putting it on Craig's List in your area for parts for several hundred dollars.
  3. depending on how good the engine is and how good of shape the car is in somewhere between free and 3-4 hundred.
  4. Craig's list
  5. the short answer is: whatever they'll pay for it. To do some research, check eBay, and call a local tranny shop. They may even buy it off you. Of course, they'll try and lowball the offer. If you advertise in the paper, make sure you indicate the tranny's out and maybe sugest "Best Offer"
  6. Hate to disappoint you, but I would think much more than $1200 to $1500. A junk yard will proably make you an offer anywhere from $500.00 to $800.00. I do hope you do better, but try to rember that it is a 15 year old car.
  7. Assuming that the rest of the car is in good shape, a 15 year old Buick with a bad transmission is probably worth about $500. Drag it into the dealer and make the best deal you can on another car.
  8. Well, if it is a hunk of junk you may have a hard time selling it... I wonder if you wouldn't get more for selling the parts? Try E-bay.
  9. you could try putting it on ebay, with a good description, and see what it reaches say advertised else where and may withdraw at any time,or put a reserve on it,if you have a price in mind.
  10. W/o screwing someone over on it. Perhaps there is more to this junk than you are saying? That statement would suggest so. If it is really a piece of junk WHY would anybody want it for free, let alone pay you money for it? Really, we only retain stuff if there is some value in it to us. After that, we sell, hoping that someone else can see some value in it. How much value really depends on the market and the interest trends. If you live in a "FORD TRUCK" town, then you are the only one who had an interest in a Buick. You don't now for some reason, and it may sit in your front yard forever. See what the metal salvage yards will pay for a complete car(dirty metal)- and maybe you can ask the auto salvage yards. Both are out to make money so not much will be offered. The transmission is not a factor with them. What is the most you can get from a car in which you cannot PROVE that the engine works or that it drives straight down the road(a non accident vehicle). It is up to your salesmanship to get that as it is, as it is. The buyer can see there is no transmission. It is you asking a price and the buyer deciding if it is worth it.
  11. Put an ad on www.craigslist.org Its free.
  12. First thing you need to do is see how much it is worth , go get some ' BLUE BOOK ' information , this will tell you how much your car is worth...just go online under Blue Book, it will ask you all kinds of things about the vehical like.....is it automatic Hp 4,6,8 what kind of shape the interior is in ... paint job ETC ETC ETC.... do your homework ... and once you have done that it will give you an estimte of what the car would be worth......and another thing you might consider is just calling around and finding how much a transmission (used-junkyd) would want, so at least if you go to sell it As Is you can inform them as to how much it would cost to reinstall a transmission, making you a smarter sellar .... :)
