How fast can you sell a car, privately, on average?

If I buy cars from auctions, would if be good business to sell the cars for profit? I make only 8.50/hour. Could I make equivalent or more if I buy cars at auctions and sell them?

  1. No. I have a friend who does this, my advice is don't quit your day job, he sometimes can sell two a month but the turn around is not enough to replace a steady check, plus in most states you need to get a dealers license to sell above a certain number of cars a year, without a license you get in some kind of trouble
  2. I have a friend who buys cars at auctions and sells a few every week. He also runs two repair shops with his brothers. I have purchased 2 used cars from him and both have been perfect, but high mileage, autos. I knew people who purchased cars with salvage title, fixed them up and resold them - but that is illegal. You would have to have a repair shop that can quickly inspect, repair and sell cars in order to make money.
  3. You'll have to know what the market is buying if you want to be succesful.
