Should I sell my old car or not..?

I got an old, but well cared for Mazda RX-7; many poeple love it when they see it. Engine-wise it will probably do another 150,000 Klm if well maintained, and untill the engine needs a complete overhaul. Body-wise, has no rust, a couple of dents, and needs to be re-sprayed if I want to make look like new. The only problem is that spare-parts are limited to none, because it was manufactured in 1987. I would probably spend more money fixing it if I keep it. My family doesn't want me to sell it, but if I think logically, I think is better to sell it and buy another more up to date car. Because my car is a sports model, its compact inside, and many friends think is too squashy once they sit inside; for the rest it has hardly gave me any problems. I do not want to trade it in, because car dealers want it for a price that I think is not woth it. However, if I get to sell it, how much do you guys think I should sell it for (Australian $); what should I do..?

  1. It is a great car but if you are hard on it after 70k then the engine will blow at anytime. Throttle cable is weak. Oil pan is low but if it is second car and you do regular full maintenance then it is Good car
  2. Auction it, if it is as old as you say, the fact is that the value is pretty high. You will have to know which people to take it to, but with a little research, you could earn yourself about 30,000-40,000 dollars
  3. You should visit a specialised online carclub like www.allfours.org.au as they have members that could give you a good idea of the worth of the vehicle. Also, car clubs that specialise in the RX7 you have will be able to tell you where you can obtain new or used parts for the vehicle. Usually someone within a car club will either be a rep for a spare parts outlet or possibly own one. Another good place if you want to sell the vehicle is ebay as it gives interested international buyers a chance to bid for your vehicle. If it is a rare or hard to find model in another country you might generate interest from overseas.
