Buying Car or Import? (Philippines)?

Guys im a student in the Philippines and i need car to help my sister and I here in the philippines but i have no idea what should i do so i really would like to know your advice to us and it would really be appreciated, my car in Saudi Arabia is been parked for almost 2 years, it only been used a few times when i go to Jeddah for a vacation so i was thinking should i sell it and buy a cheap car here or just import my car to the phillipines, the problem is from what i heard importing cars to the phillipines is really expensive but at the same time the cars in the phillipines are still expensive in my opinion so please let me know what is your advice for me and if you know the range of how much it will cost me if im gonna import my car or if im looking for a small car such as Honda - Civic - 2002-2005 some details about my car in case its needed so that you can provide me of how much its gonna cost me approximtly if im gonna import it from saudi arabia to the philippines. Mazda 6 (2.3 Litre) 2004 Price of purchase: 65K SAR (~715K pesos) Active Matic transmission PS: i dont know what other details do i need just please let me know if you need more details and i will be gladly to post it here... thanks for your time

  1. Visit the general Philippines website (gov.ph) and check with the laws governing importing vehicles to Philippines. Last I recall, the formula fell along the lines of.. 100% - ((current year) - (year of your car) x .10) = import tax So if you planned to buy a 2005 Honda with an original MSRP of say $20,000 then your tax would be 70% import tax. That means you would also need to pay an additional $14,000 tax. That's a total of $34,000 (P1,360,000). You can call someone in the Philippines import/export office to confirm. Check the other recent Philippine import benefits that might be available to you. If you're an OFW, you might be entitled to tax-free import of your car. Good luck!
