buying a car with a lien but the seller has a bill of sales from original owner?

I'm looking in buying a car for track purposes I found someone selling a car with a lien on it. The seller says the original owner defaulted on the loan/bankruptcy and title was never issued. He has a bill of sale from the original owner and proof of registration. If I buy this car would I be liable for the lien on the car and if yes/no how would I obtain the car's title .

  1. NEVER buy a car without clean title.....u do u will be sorry...lien means title [the car] is owned by lien holder...bill of sale is worthless. get seller to take title to DMV and see if they can find out who holds lien...its hard to figure out sometimes...original owner may know who he was making payments to... you can't change title without release from lien holder
  2. Do not buy this car. The current seller is not telling the whole story. In my state, you can't get plates/registration without title.
  3. Not good dude, thats bogus
