What do I need to sell a used car in North Carolina when the car is registered/titled in California?
I am moving to NC. I drove a car from CA that I now want to sell. There is no lien holder and the title is salvage. Can I sell it is NC before spending money to register it in NC? I need to know procedure/forms required, etc.

- No you can't. you could sell in CA though. Some states allow notary by mail, but most do not. NC can not transfer a title that it did not issue, only the issuing state can transfer the title. NC would have to request on your behalf to change the title to a NC title, which is why you have to transfer it to NC first wait for the new title and then it can be sold to someone else. And don't get the idea of selling it on a promasary note, if the new owner has an accident NC will hold you responsible, because you are the owner and it is your responsibility until it is retitled in the other persons name.
- Whatever paperwork you might need, good luck trying to sell a salvage title car in another state.
