Does anyone know about modified Cars and Servicing?

Hi, I am currently looking at buying a used 2002 RSX type S. However, the car has a custom air intake in it and I am worried that the dealership might not take it in for service? If I bought this car would I have any problems of this sort? Also would I be able to pass State inspections? I am located in Virginia. Thank You

  1. it has to pass inspection before the dealer can sell it If the dealer sells it they should service it I do not see a problum
  2. yes it will. the intake does not damage your warranty. they can still service the vehicle.
  3. This car is way past warranty so it doesn't matter, as long as it passes inspection in your state, any dealer that denies you because of a cold air intake is not the place you want to take your car.
  4. Make sure the cold air intake has a CARB sticker on it somewhere or it might not pass inspection.
  5. I would never buy a used car that had been modified in any material way. First off if the performance is better even by 1 horse power, you are potentially invalidating your insurance, since the vehicle is not to factory spec. Second, a dealership may tell you that they want nothing to do with your vehicle. Third, anyone who modifies their vehicle in an attempt to go faster has probably at some point (or even on many occasions) driven the vehicle hard and fast. This wears everything out quicker. I never want to buy a used vehicle that's been owned by a boy racer. As for your state inspections, modifications like this have the potential to alter the emissions, which could cause problems on the state inspection. All in all, with the insurance issues, warranty issues, and the fact you know the vehicle has probably been thrashed, I'd look for a better deal.
  6. sorry not a race car mechaninc so leve it alone
