What police "actually" does to modified private registration plate cars which are not legal ?
I bought a private number plate, I didn't modified it excatly to look what I thought I would do to make it look like, because the shop I went to make the registration plate advised me to sign a form taking the responsibility of an illigal plate. Now, I see soooo many cars who make slight modification to plates which I was advised not to do. I never hear anybody telling me that police has taken the vehicle away. What actually police does to these people ?

- hi they give you a small fine and a producer to get it changed and signed by a garage then you have to give it t the cops . pain in the arse if you get caught but alot of people do it . just shows how much time the pigs have on there hands
- When you 'buy' a private plate you only actually buy permission to use it on your car. The plate has to conform to guidelines laid out by the DOT as regards digit spacing and size and style of the lettering. If you fail to comply with the guidelines, the police can apply to have the number voided and removed from DVLA listings. You therefore lose the plate and the money you paid for it. Worst still is your car will be Q plated which will more than halve its value, they will not issue an age related plate to the car as you broke the law and, in their eyes, must suffer the consequences. Yes the police do have better things to do, the above is worse case scenario
- the most i have ever recieved for this offence is a £60 fixed penalty, i have driven for months with no front plate . as long as you are civilised, most coppers will let you off with a warning , but these days you are unlikly to get a pull for just the plate, worry not, the form you signed is just to make the manufacturer of the plate immune from proscecution by most likly saying the plate is a sign or show plate.go ahead as the police have better things to be doing or at least should have!!plus the added bonus of being invisible to auto no. plate recog. cameras.bonus
- Your English is difficult to comprehend as it is very poor but essentially I have never heard of the Police stopping a vehicle with illegal plates. It should be an MOT failure, but I have heard of people getting away with that too. Basically it is another example of an unenforced law
