Overhaulin'

I want to use straight pipes on my 1973 Lincoln Continental what do you think?

I want to slightly modify my 1973 Lincoln Continental sedan with straight pipes no emission controls of any sorts and no muffler, There are no vehicle inspections in Florida, would you? I'm trying for a Musle car with class, it has been measured at 305 HP ??? Top speed 145MPH I put about 150 miles a month on the car

  1. yeah cool man like run it down main street at 0300 am when you are at 50mph and drop it down to low and hear the dogs howl and cats scream haha ... go for it its loud dude
  2. Well, how often will you be driving it? If only occasionally then it can be a lot of fun, but if it is a daily driver it can quickly become old. I own a 1977 F-150 with very loud exhaust that I drove as a daily driver for two years. While flooring it from a red light is a exciting mix of sound and speed, the constant roar from the exhaust while cruising down the highway is a mix of monotonous and maddening.
  3. Years ago, i saw one that had Cragars and side pipes --gave the vehicle a whole different attitude.
  4. I think it's illegal, as most states I'm aware of have laws that mandate the use of mufflers.
  5. Well, for the drag strip, sure. But Smokey will be on your tail every time you try to drive around he block.
  6. I am with you on doing something like this, but you will get a ticket even in Florida for it. These did not come with catalytic converters (pre-1975) and you could put some glasspack mufflers on it and get a milder sound, but still be loud as heck.. As the post above says, you will get tired of how loud it will be, and so will everybody else.
  7. no 1973 Lincoln came with 300 HP so I assume you or someone has already modified it so putting on straight pipes would fall into place won't do anything for collector status but it would make one hell of a machine.
